Sense Motive check (1d20 3=17)
much better this time
Kael,
You know that soemthing is not quite right about Lord Granger (He rolled a 19, but you were close enough). He might just be a bigoted noble, or ther emight be somethign else going on. You gut says be careful around him.

![]() |

Kael and Brother Seamus,
Adian tells you that his wife's name was Kara and his daughter's name was Laura. He then breaks down in tears after that, saying that he has not been asked about them is almost a year, and how he misses them. As for the location of the monastry, even he did not know the exact location, but only that it is near Castle Whiterock. In a 1000 years a lot can happen. He does mention that he does not remember how he escaped. He was too scared and hungry to remember much of anything.

Brother Seamus |

In undercommon"I think he's just not believed by the towns folk because he's a drunk. That doesn't mean what he says isn't true. Ask him if he would show us to where he escaped from."
The same: "No. It be more than that. Come now; of all the terrors and dangers of the city, the guardsman did warn us not to believe this man. There must be someone active here, keeping doubt upon this man. As for the escape, are we on the trail of the orcs, or their slaver merchants?"
To Adien: "Thanks, then, to the gods, who saw the way to thy deliverance. Did any of thy fellow monks make free as well? And, what happened afterwards? Whom didst thou call? And hat brought thee to this present squalid health?"
...how he has not been asked about them is almost a year, and how he misses them.
Brother Seamus takes Adien's hand. "Tonight, Brother Adien, thou dost not grieve alone."

Brother Seamus and Kael,
~Adian looks at you both straight in the eyes~ There were 3 of us. I never saw my companions again. We are a small order, broguth low by time. I tried to contact my lead at the capital, but I heard nothing back. I tried to warn the people around here of the dangers, but no one listens! ~he almost shouts and then starts to break down again~ Thank you for your kindness, but I must go. I am tired and need to think some. Take care kind ones! ~he exits the Inn~
Adian is human

Kael |

Kael waits a moment, pays the waitress on the way out and follows Adian and Brother Seamus.
When he gets outside he blends with shadows.
Hide(29) and Move Silently (31) checks
I messed up my skills, those check should be Hide (26) and Move Silintly (32). Sorry about that.

Merian Benvalla |

"s.s.s.sword Lieutenant...umm umm."
~looks at the tall woman with jaw dropped clutching Idiah with fear in his eyes~
Merian frowns, the gnome's sudden fear at her title instantly making her far more suspicious. Her brows lower, and it is possible that violence would begin in moments, except that the unconscious woman suddenly awakens and speaks:
"Gnome...you saved my life," she says to the gnome. She notices his colorful clothes and bright eyes. "I am Idiah. What is your name?"
Merian hesitates, still watching the pseudodragon. After a moment, she relents. "Forgive me, madam, but you do know this man? He seems oddly unwilling to tell me his name, and I have been asked to keep an eye on you in Lady Chauntessa's absence. The blessings of Iomedae have closed the worst of your wounds, but I have a potion of healing that might do more if you need it."

Idiah |

The blessings of Iomedae have closed the worst of your wounds, but I have a potion of healing that might do more if you need it."
Idiah's sluggish mind works hard to take in everything the woman is telling her. Madam? When had anyone ever called her that? Lady Chauntessa must be the woman whose voice she heard before. But this lady seems to be saying she, or her goddess, helped heal her. She looks up at the woman and feels her back ache as she moves to a more comfortable position.
"I, I don't know his name, but the gnome," she glances at him before looking back at the woman, "saved my life. I was hurt on the road and he brought me here. I...I think I would have bled to death. Where am I?"
Still feeling a twinge in her back, she adds, "can I have that healing potion you mentioned?"
Sharoth, how injured am I? Am I healed up and Merian should save the potion for later, or should I take it?

Priapus |

"Gnome...you saved my life," she says to the gnome. She notices his colorful clothes and bright eyes. "I am Idiah. What is your name?"
"well of course your Idiah it says so on your.... You know what that's not important what's important is that you are feeling better after that nasty ambush out on the road, I am so happy to assist you, and since you are wondering I am Priapus your humble servant."
at which point I bow" please take that meager coin and get your self refreshed and come down to the bar, they are a lively bunch down there and you look as if you could use some cheer"
whispers quietly to Idiah
"plus your body guard the great, Sword louie; kinda scares me a bit, and all I can think about around her is mountain climbing
at which point Priapus heads down stairs, with a smile

![]() |

Kael and Brother Seamus,
NP, Kael. You still are not seen nor heard, but that is ok. ~wicked smile~ However, next time you will be flogged. And not in that fun, erotic way that you like so much!
Both of you roll a spot check. Kael, add +2 to yours due to you not being spotted and being a slight distance behing Brotehr Seamus.

Idiah |

** spoiler omitted **at which point Priapus heads down stairs, with a smile
Idiah is surprised at Priapus' statement; she thinks: where would I write down...? Then the gnome presses a coin into her hand. The action is distasteful to her, bringing back too many unpleasant memories.I must be at an inn, she thinks.
"Thank you, Priapus," she says uncertainly, but he is already out the door.

Kael,
You think you see something, but you are not sure. (Thugs move silently roll, 1d20 = 18 )

Kael |

Kael keeps on eye on the 'thugs'.
can I make a listen check too?
Sharoth

![]() |

Kael,
Thugs move silently, 1d20 = 6. You hear the 4 thugs coming down the alley behind Brother Seamus and Adian. What do you do?
It appears that I am rolling a nat 1 on my spelling check roll today. ~grimaces~

Idiah |

Idiah,
So I'm only down by 4 hp at this point
~Idiah feels much better once the potion takes effect, but she is still stiff and sore from her travel and combat. She sits up in the bed and studies the woman in the room with her.
~short hair, gruff demeanor...she must be some sort of battle-priestss.

Brother Seamus |

Well, Spot = d20 + 2 = 15; Listen = d20 = 20. Seamus makes up with luck what he lacks in actual perceptive skill.

Brother Seamus,
~Laughter~ Well, that is true. Funny but true.
You hear the clopping of 4 people who are thinking that they are being quiet, but they are actually acting like a big, loud idiot. Or at least to you they are.

Merian Benvalla |

"Thank you for your, and your goddess', aid. I'm feeling much better now," Idiah tells the woman.
Merian smiles warmly at her. "Healing is the least of the blessings the Inheritor grants, but it is among those I most treasure being able to offer." She bows her head in greeting. "I am Merian Benvalla, Swordlieutenant Second in the Shining Crusade. I grew up on a farm a few miles outside this town, and I'm home on leave." She laughs lightly. "And that's probably more than you cared to know about me. If you are still sore, I can pray to Iomedae for more curative energies...?"

![]() |

What time of evening is it? Is it dark enough that we might be able to lose them if we move fast enough?
Brother Seamus,
It is around 8pm. It should be dark enough for you and Kael to escape, but Adian seems to have regained some of his spine, at the wrong time.

Brother Seamus |

]It is around 8pm. It should be dark enough for you and Kael to escape, but Adian seems to have regained some of his spine, at the wrong time.
"Adien, art thou armed?" I ask quietly as we continue making our way down the street. I look around for some open establishment, as I take the pick in my left hand.

![]() |

Brother Seamus,
~Adien has the grace to look abashed~ No, my friend. But perhaps I could use one of your weapons? ~he gives an eager look~
You could try to persuade him about what the better part of valour is? Also, you know that the thugs are coming. You would get the suprise round.
As the four thugs get closer, you notice that each one pulls out a club.

Idiah |

Merian smiles warmly at her. "Healing is the least of the blessings the Inheritor grants, but it is among those I most treasure being able to offer." She bows her head in greeting. "I am Merian Benvalla, Swordlieutenant Second in the Shining Crusade. I grew up on a farm a few miles outside this town, and I'm home on leave." She laughs lightly. "And that's probably more than you cared to know about me. If you are still sore, I can pray to Iomedae for more curative energies...?"
Idiah smiles. She showes Merian the bruises on her arms and legs.
"I think I can use all the help I can get. Those...men I met on the road don't know how to treat a lady."Idiah notes with dismay that, along with her armor and bloody clothes her gloves are also missing. She looks around the room to see where her gear might have been put. Then she hastily covers her left hand with her right, feeling even more awkward in the presence of an important, ranking crusader.
"Um...was I only in my shift when you found me? Because I don't remember..."

Brother Seamus |

All right, they've armed themselves. That puts this in an entirely new light. We are no longer attacking random members of the community.
I hand Adien my club and sigh. Under my breath, I count down, "3, 2, 1, go!"
And I swing around and attack, hitting AC 18 for 7 points of damage, including sneak attack.
Afterwards, I roll initiative of 22.
On that first full round, I swing at a second attacker. I hit. As I rolled another natural 20 to confirm the critical, the blow does (5x4 + 2) = 22 points of damage!
"Well, we shall needs be casting Speak with Dead to interrogate that one," I say aloud to Kael.
I'm never going to roll another critical again, you know.

![]() |

Brother Seamus,
~Adian attack one of the thugs 1d20+1 = 9 and misses. He rolls his initiative 1d20 + 2 = 19 and attacks another thug 1d20 + 1 = 9and misses again.
The thug that you initially attacked is running awya in fear. The other two thugs attack Adian. Thug 3 1d20+2=7 and misses.
Thug 4 rolls 1d20 + 2 =22, is this a confirmation of the crit?1d20 + 0 = 13

Brother Seamus |

Thug 4 rolls 1d20 + 2 =22, is this a confirmation of the crit?1d20 + 0 = 13
Are the thugs human? Does Thug 4 have a miss chance because of the darkness?
Did Kael move in the surprise round or before the thugs?

Brother Seamus,
They are human. Thug 3 missed because of having poor aim. Thug 4 however, did hit. Kael should be able to get one hit in this round.

Priapus |

"So a powerful rich Magister such as yourself could use an acquaintance in an unknown town, not that this lovely vision next to you doesn't have a lot to offer, I'm just saying that I have been known to be able to find out lots of useful information for a person."
~follows them down he stairs~
"and in so doing i should be able to justify some small meager form of compensation such as scrolls or other devices that would be beneath such a powerful lord asyourselfandthereforoffergreatservicetoyouandyours......"
does not seem to pause to catch a breath the entire way down the stairs

Kael |

Kael comes out of the shadows and attacks a Thug.
dagger attack and init (1d20=15, 1d20 1=19)
If a 15 hits then dagger attack (1d3=3)
In undercommon "They're a bunch of sloppers."

Kael |

Sorry about forgetting that you should roll init. Blame it on being a newbie DM. I am doing my best. ~wry smile~ Hopefully I am passing so far.
Not a problem I'm having a good time and it seems that the rest of the party is too. :)
I think you're doing a great job. (One that I don't think I could do...)
Brother Seamus |

Now, in the second full round,
How's Adien doing?
"If they surrender, takest thou their cudgels. If not, we shalt have more skulls to interrogate."

![]() |

Kael and Brother Seamus,
Thug 4 hit Adian for 1d6+1 x2 = 6 points of damage.
Then Thug 4 runs, having failed his morale roll.
All but one of the Thugs have fled. That one is dead. Adian has a broken shoulderblade, but he is ok.

![]() |

Kael and Brother Seamus,
All but the dead thug are at 1 to 3 hps and have fled. You all congradulate yourselfs. Please roll a spot check at a -5.
Kael, you were as suprised as the Thugs were, but you knew that that might happen, so you managed to get your hit in soon enough. Good job you two!
