Quick Summon Monster question

3.5/d20/OGL

I think I already know the answer but I thought I would ask anyways. Because my god is Chaotic Evil (I'm Chaotic Neutral) I can't summon Celestial creatures. There is no reason I couldn't summon a Fiendish Dog or Fiendish Owl instead of the Celestial version? I'm just looking for summoning varity.

Although I suspect the Rules As Written would argue that you can't... I'd call shenanigans on that. There's nothing wrong with a celestial giant centipede or a fiendish dog; I say, mix and match away!

That's my thought as well. Unearthed Arcana has a section about alternate summon lists and they basically state to add templates to creature to make more custominzed lists. In fact they list templates like Air, Earth and Shadow all from Manual of the Planes. Granted this means that I just ordered the book used from Amazon ($10 whata a bargain). Thanks for your input.

The Shadow template is slightly tweaked in the eratta up on the WotC site, but otherwise, it's all good.

An Air Elemental template Giant Octopus is a freaky concept...

It can't be done. It's a known fact that ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN. They even made a movie out of it.

Other movies, like "Devil Dog, The Hound of Hell" would argue against that logic, though.

Hell hounds are already on the Summon Monster III list.

Devil dogs are from the Tome of Horrors; they're not in the SRD.
