Well, Sword and Sorcery Studios put out three Creature Catalogs, which were sort of under the OGL. As in, the statistics were, but the names were not. I should know, because I spent a lot of time on ENWorld reskinning and tweaking them for inclusion into the "Monster Geographica" series. One of the creatures from one of the books was a "Charduni battle ram", which looked a lot like a flightless version of that mount. It is totally within the realm of possibility that this module features a reskinned battle ram (although I don't remember if we converted that monster for Monster Geographica), maybe with the half-fiend template.
Of course, it also wouldn't surprise me if that was just a nightmare with a different description.
Maybe something like a half-dragon (black) griffin or even horse
