D&D Insider Character Builder Beta is now available

4th Edition

Downloaded it hours ago, though the download is far from smooth. I highly recommend downloading .Net 3.5 SP directly from Microsoft before downloading the Char Builder.

Its only to level 3 right now(darn Beta), and Barbarian isn't included it only has Dragon issues up to 367 in the system. Barbarian is issue 368. They have said that they plan on adding newer Dragon issues and Martial Power to the Character Builder before the full launch early next year.

That being said, its nice to use. I've already created 23 characters with it.

I did the same thing the night Wizards of the Coast released their Character Builder - I spent hour upon hour making characters. I think the Character Builder is awesome and well worth the wait. A few of my favorite features are how you simply select elements you want in your character - no data entry at all. It makes it nice and fast. I also like how everything has a link to the D&D Compendium, while at the same time providing full rules for in the right pane.

Great program that I think by far surpasses the Wiesbaden Excel-based character sheet.

I loathe character creation with a passion. This tool is the best thing since sliced bread.

Character done 8-).

Now I eagerly await my character visualiser.

I am very impressed with it. It definitely gets the job done, and while I haven't played around with it as much as I'd like, I am eager to see how much I can customize the character sheet so it is more usable than the default one.

And yeah, very, very useful for building characters. Being able to easily all the options for a power, rather than digging through sourcebooks or checking the compendium? That is sweet, and going to speed up character creation ten-fold for me.

I find it is also a pretty sweet system and I've barely played around with it. But I most appreciate the "easter egg" of a 3rd artificer at-will power.

I subscribed to D&D Insider because of the quality of this tool. I highly recommend everyone who can check it out and if you like it, lock in the $5 a month subscription rate for the next year because I think when the full version releases "very early next year", they are going to raise the price of Insider.

This program is excellent though. I love it. And, I'm a frickin' DM.

I think it's great, and really want the full version to be out. One thing I am wondering, will the full version also be offline? If so, how often is it going to be upgraded? Thinking about it, is the beta going to be upgraded with, say, Martial Power material?

I believe it is supposed to be updated when the DDI Compendium is updated; they apparently are based on the same database.

Too bad none of it's MAC compatible. BOOO!
