Liberty's Edge

Currently, I have subscriptions to the Adventure Path and to the modules. That leaves Companion ($10 ave. every 2 months) and Chronicles ($20 ave. ea. month) out in the wings.

God bless our economy and being financially strapped. I don't want to give up my current subscriptions, and $15/mo. extra doesn't initially seem like a lot . . . but it adds up.

And naturally, with so much to read - Egads. I don't know if I could honestly keep up with four subscriptions. But that's mine to deal with.

So, here I am with some questions.

1. First and foremost, any bulk subscription discount possible? The Adventure Path comes at a 30% discount and free .pdf. Nice. The modules, Companion and Chronicles also come with free .pdfs but no discounts. Free .pdfs are nice. Keep it up. BUT IS THERE ANYTHING IN THE WORKS TO ENCOURAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS WITH MORE DISCOUNTS??

2. What are people's opinions of Companions and/or Chronicles. Feedback please.

Don't forget that your AP subscription gives you a discount on the other subscriptions as well.

That being said, if I had to choose just one, I would go with the Chronicles subscription. Its more expensive, but the bigger books are more satisfying.

If you are running APs companions are a must, they will include players guides from now on, as well as massive amounts f fluff, and some nice looking crunch.

Also they (ideally, though it aint happening yet) alternate with modules and cost the same.....

Chronicles I have picked and chosen from, there are a few more I should probably pick up, (guide to Korvosa when running Crimson Throne....) but gets wayyy expensive sometimes, and I'm not good enough at keeping track of what comes out when to manage that......

Oh, the Planet stories are amazing too, but you didn't ask about them..... :)

Yeah. I figure that I have enough books unread that Planet Stories just wouldn't work into my already packed schedule. Chronicles and Companion on the other hand . . .

Congratulations. It is a tough choice if you're on a limited gaming budget, but really, who can resist?

If I really had to choose between Chronicles and Companion, I'd suggest Chronicles for greater GM content.

Not only is GMing a large responsibility, requires preparation time, sacrifices the play experience, but usually the GM also foots the majority of the gaming resources bill.

Encourage your players to pick up the player-friendly Companion books. A significant portion of each book is dedicated to Traits which are intended for player characters, not NPCs. Let them know you're NOT buying the Companion line, so the only way their characters gain access to these Traits is by helping out and purchasing the books themselves.

Yep—Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers get 15% off the cover price of any other subscriptions, along with just about everything else in the store (except for non-Paizo downloads).

Actually, the cover price of the Companion is $3 lower than the cover price of the Modules.

If I recall, they can't do that without upsetting their bricks-and-mortar stores. They get away with it for the Pathfinder APs because they're the successor to the magazines (waving hands here, but that's how I remember it being explained) but not for other products. Or something.

That's basically it.
