I was wondering how is it possible (since it was mentioned in the society guide). Note I have no interest in playing it...

Heh, well, the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play also mentions a halfling paladin waving the flag of Cheliax. Building the concept as such demands quite an imagination though, since most people won't buy it.
True, a very naïve, misinformed, and stubborn halfling could get away with the faction missions and the whole Chelish atmosphere itself by not grasping the true concept of Asmodeus. An examplatory model of a victim of propaganda. "No, what Asmodeus does is not evil." Also, considering the paladin's code, he'd still act all good in normal situation.
A halfling paladin of Asmodeus. Really, that is an awesome concept!

Well first thing is the paladin couldn't be one of Asmodeus(LE). But he could be serving any other LG/LN god.
Nowhere in the PHB or SRD is anything that says something like that. Even if it'd be like the cleric's "one step from alignment", it'd include NG too. Also, in paladin's entry:
Alignment: Paladins must be lawful good, and they lose their divine powers if they deviate from that alignment. Additionally, paladins swear to follow a code of conduct that is in line with lawfulness and goodness.
Religion: Paladins need not devote themselves to a single deity--devotion to righteousness is enough. Those who align themselves with particular religions prefer Heironeous (god of valor) over all others, but some paladins follow Pelor (the sun god). Paladins devoted to a god are scrupulous in observing religious duties and are welcome in every associated temple.
So there are no rules that'd prohibit from making a paladin worshipping an evil god. Nevertheless I acknowledge that some DMs would deny its existence based on something. However, as I gave an example of a possible to way to be a paladin worshipping an evil god, I don't see anything that'd make it 'illegal'. A paladin so blind and naïve, just bought the propaganda about how Asmodeus will make everything good again and yadda yadda, aggrevated when hears blasphemous speeches about his god being evil and so on.
A halfling paladin crusading to free his homeland (Cheliax) wouldn't really be doing work for Cheliax for that matter. Actually, to think of it, a paladin working for Cheliax is impossible (unless you make a paladin of Asmodeus, obviously).
