A judge has brushed off a Connecticut woman's claim that L'Oreal Inc. ruined her social life when she accidentally dyed her hair brunette with one of its products.

Charlotte Feeney of Stratford said she can never return to her natural blonde hue, a shock that left her so traumatized she needed anti-depressants.

She says she suffered headaches and anxiety, missed the attention that blondes receive and had to stay home and wear hats most of the time.

If this doesn't prove the need for torte reform, I don't know what does. I wonder what our resident lawyers, like Sebastion, would have to say about this.

wait...why couldn't she return to her natural hair colour? if it bother her that much and her social life is already ruined, why doesn't she just shave her head and wait for it to regrow? bear in mind that i have no experiance with hair coloring products, so this may be a stupid question...

My wife's natural color is blonde, and she went red for a few years. She recently wanted to go back to blonde, and for whatever reason, it would take two visits to the hair place to have the red chemically stripped out. She ended up opting to go light brown with blonde highlights, which I guess was easier and less costly.

Of course, since I just shave my head bald, and haven't set foot into a barber shop or hair place in over 6 years, I have absolutely no idea why any of this was the case. But it seems as if it would be possible to go back.

Yeah. I would think that it would be just like a brunette's hair when it has been died blonde. The roots would still grow out the natural color because it is genetically encoded into her follicules.

I mean, I know (according to a friedn who changes her hair colour every other week) that if you bleach enough it kills the roots and destroys the natural colour (which she has to do to go straight from green to blue or red or purple), but that takes quite a few times and i'm not sure if it works with actual coloring, which means that either she's been dying it consistently brown for some time (if that's how it works), or else something went wrong this time or something.

basically, were I the judge this would go one fo two ways. if it was the first, I'd throw out the case. if it were the second and she had some reason to blame the company for it, then i'd listen, but it's doubtful. it'd be like going after a piercing place because they put in a piercing you're allergic to that you didn't knwo you were allergic to at the time and then didn't seek help immeidately.

This sounds suspiciously like the origins of the Joker.

Yeah, I have to agree. Unless the company put the wrong color dye in the box, this is all her own fault. But in this day and age, no one ever wants to take responsibility for their own mistakes. It's easier (and more profitable) to blame someone else.

I thought the hair in question was her pubes. I guess the article doesn't specify either way.

*sigh* This has been one of my soapbox issues for the last decade, at least. How vapid do you have to be to hang the blame of every unforseen implication of an action you take on someone else? Choices have consequences.

So true. The world would be so much better if we could just remove that pesky freedom of choice ;p Cheliax is looking better all the time.

You guys know that the DC lawyer whose pants were ruined by the dry cleaner is trying to re-open his multi-million dollar lawsuit, even though a judge already threw it out? The guy can't take a hint.

The possibility of money makes people do crazy, and often stupid things. Just watch Japanesse game shows and you will see what I mean.

What's great is that the guy suing, a judge actually, ended up losing his job because of the stupid lawsuit, because he lacked "judicial temperament."
