We have three. We could still take one more if you are interested. Try to have a look at what the other players are thinking of for characters and see if you can come up with a concept that you can work in. Right now it seems like all the characters are linked via the magician.
Did you all need another man or you "full up"? I couldn't count how many had replied with aliases floating around. and I posted after the the link to this thread, possibly cutting out any notice of my post in the semi-original thread...ow my brain hurts.

I don't know exactly what you have in mind for this character, but I see him as an up and coming magician. He hasn't made the big time yet, but has been performing at some vaudeville type places. He recently finished a successful stint at a performing house (not Broadway/Times Square yet, but the next step down). He's now got some downtime, and is planning on creating a new act. You were in need a of a bigger work space to develop your illusions, and you have just managed to find a cheap warehouse to rent. You plan to do some work on the place and turn it into your new workshop. You figure you have enough savings to keep you going for maybe as much as a year while you develop your new material.
The game will begin with you showing your friends your not so new place. It's a fix er upper, but you've got the time.
I need to go rent some movies- Prestige, Lord of Illusions, something about Houdini, and maybe that other movie that came out around the same time as the prestige (can't remember its name)
<---------------will have him done by the end of the weekend

I could see a reporter/muckraker type character being useful for this game (I have some ideas in mind). Though there are plenty of other options if that one isn't of interest to you.

A sort of Fletch meets Carl Kolchak, but who was busted down to the entertainment beat, and now looks for scandals and such, with a limp, a sneer, and big accordion looking camera rig with a flash that goes poof? I'm there...I must reread the others character descriptions, if you all think this is good, if 4's a crowd I'll watch from the sidelines :)
P.H. Dungeon
Yes I guess that was the one I was thinking (with Paul Giometti). Lord of Illusions which I mentioned is a Clive Barker one with Scott Backula that I remember really liking. I haven't seen it in about 10 years or so, but I remember thinking it was really cool at the time. There's a scene where the magician character is shackled to this wheel thing and all these swords are falling down on him. He has to free himself before the swords fall and impale him, but he doesn't pick one of the locks fast enough and a sword gets him in the arm. After that it's all down hill for his act. It's a freaky movie.

Vincent Palmer is an orphan who arrived in New York as an immigrant at the turn of the century. His parents are among the many victims of the blood feuds in Sicily. Shortly thereafter Vincent joined the the Cosa Nostra and rose through the ranks into his present position as negotiator. Though handy with a gun, Vincent is always accompanied by a bodyguard by the name of Guido.
Recently, Vincent became aware of a substance called cocaine and is presently looking into the viability of importing it into the states.
At this point probably where he will come into contact with the other members of the party.
Vincent is a pragmatic and irreligious man though a golden crucifix on a chain is always with him (Think Sarah Michelle Gellar from that movie, but he doesn't get high on his own supply). He always wears a suit and carries a gun in a shoulder holster. He has a permit to carry the gun thanks to his innumerable services and contributions to the Office of the Mayor of New York.
Vincent is a ruthless man having performed his first murder by the age of ten when he blew the brains out of the man who killed his parents.

Radavel he looks pretty good (solid rolls). You might want to consider throwing a few of your skill points into psychology, as it is often used in the game to tell when people are lying. In game play it tends to be closer to Sense Motive than psychology. However, the choice is of course up to you. The New York book, also adds a New York City local knowledge skill, which players can sink points into. I have to check and see what the base is for it, but it could be useful for your personal interest skill points, which you still have to spend.

Local knowledge is a skill needed by a Mob Negotiator.
Will put a lot of points into psych.
BTW, I do have Lord of Illusions, The Prestige, and The Illusionist. Love them all.
A scary movie you may want to look at is The Medusa Touch.
P.H. Dungeon
City Lore (New York) has a base percentage of %25. A reporter can have it as an occupational skill, as can a criminal.
You'd think a reporter would also use the local knowledge skill, but I had Fast talk in my mind for the sense motive type thing...getting past the police line, or feeling out if someone's lying....the that gut reporer instinct

Hey for education the quick start rules say roll 3d6 then add 3 so I put my 15 on education added 3 to get me an 18. Then for occupation skills it says education x 15 so 18x15=270 then I have my hobby skills at int x10 so 170 there. I am confused cause it seems Radavel has more than that are the quick start rules wrong? Also age adds to educatation? I do nto see that in the quick start rules, I would be intrested to see that chart, can someone clarufy this....Please!
Thanks guys
Also starting money and assets???
thanks again!

thanks man! can u help with starting cash?
do we still have the hobby skills at Int(10)?
What is the default starting age??
starting cash roll 1d10 then consult table in the book;
minimum starting age = edu plus six;more details later as the book is in the house and I am at work. Have some lawyer stuff to finish and file before end of the day.

1d10 roll for starting $$$$ Radaval can u look on the chart for me and let me know please.
Go to Unmodified Start Wealth roll=8.
Amardolem
6th ed rules says multiply edu by 20 then add 20 for each 10 year you add to your pc's starting age.
your skill points should therefore be 18 x 20 = 360
I likewise didn't do that...I dislike PDF's [/grognard] so I think it's time for a trip to the FLGS, I've needed an excuse to get over there anyway.

I saw the thread..sp essentially we all know each other and are going to the Illusionists new digs? I figure Skip befriended him from his now entertainment beat, and knows Vincent from before the war, and may have gotten some "dirt" from him sporadically over the last few years (befo

A little something to help everyone.
Call of Cthulhu PBP 6th ed.
1. Determine Characteristics
Roll 3d6 for STR, CON, POW, DEX, APP
Roll 2d6+6 for SIZ and INT
Roll 3d6+3 for EDU
SAN = POW x 5
2. Determine Characteristic Rolls
Idea = INT x 5
Luck = POW x 5
Know = EDU x 5
Add SIZ and STR then check table below
2 to 12 -1d6
13 to 16 -1d4
17 to 24 +0
25 to 32 +1d4
33 to 40 +1d6
41 to 56 +2d6
57 to 72 +3d6
73 to 88 +4d6
Max SAN is 99 minus Cthulhu Mythos
3. Determine Derived Characteristic Points
HP = CON + SIZ /2 round-up
Magic = POW
Sanity Points = SAN
4. Determine Occupation & Skills
Yearly Income, Roll 1d10 then consult table below
1 - $1,500 plus room and board
2 - $2,500
3 & 4 – 3,500
5 - $4,500
6 - $5,500
7 - $6,500
8 - $7,500
9 - $10,000
10 - $20,000
Choose Occupation (which also determines specialty skills)
EDU x 20 = Skill Points you can divide among the specialty skills, you can have up to 99 points per skill
INT x 10 = Skill Points you can divide among personal interest skills
Allot Every Point; unallocated points are lost.
5. Determine Weapons
6. Determine Additional Background
Minimum Age = EDU + 6. For each ten (10) years older you make your investigator than that, add a point of EDU and allot an additional 20 occupation points. With Maturity comes Mortality, for each ten (10) years above the age of 40, subtract your choice of 1 STR, 1 CON, 1 DEX, or 1 APP.

my harddrive on my main pc is locking up, sorry for the delay (I know, sounds cheesy) I'm on the laptop (and my work pc hehe) I may be in need of some check for my post in the game thread. with the points difference it may change but for now my fast talk was 50 I'll try to keep with that but the extra pts from 6e (thanks Radavel!) put me over what I had done up before. Once I get the stats up I'll have no problems at work aor here... let me know and I'll roll it if necessary on Invisible Castle

Personal Interest Skills (150 points)
I am afraid I need some help. I don't have the CoC books. I need to know the skills for a psychologist/psychiatrist. I cannot see them in the quick start rules.
The quick start states:
Once you have select the occupation, you
should look at the list of skills on you character
sheet. Choose 8 skills which are appropriate for
your character's chosen occupation. These are your
"Occupation Skills."
You now have to assign percentile points to the
skills on the character sheet. Before you do so,
please note that no skill can start play with a rating
higher than 75.
Do I just choose 8 skills from the sample character sheet, note the percentages given, and add points to them?
Please help.

Psychologist... doctor then.
Biology

First Aid

Is there something similar for reporter? from memory I took
(haven't put em in my profile yet)
conceal
fast talk
persuade
photography
hide
knowledge local
stealth
and one more I can't recall as my sheet is home...I should get to the Flgs today and have my stuff posted by later (Thursday is game night too...this is like a double bonus)

Radaeval has posted your "class skills". You divide up the percentages among them as you see fit, as long as no skill is over 75%. Then assign percentage points to your hobby skills, which are basically any skills you wish.
Here are my character's stats.

The characters are coming well, a couple of things
1. I suggest you post percentages for other skills that you might end up using (especially stuff like spot hidden), even if you haven't sunk points into you have a base percentage, and it is easier to refer to if you can click on your online character sheet than if you have to go thumbing through the books (it's also easier for me).
2. Skip's character I noticed you didn't put any points into Spot Hidden. I think this would likely be a pretty important skill for a reporter, so if I were you I'd reshuffle your skill points a little so you can fit some points for that.
Amardolem
Yes I finally scored the game book and will straighten it out..though I may swap psychology for something else as I envisioned Skip as more of a man on the street than a cerebral type. If I can stop looking at all the pictures....it's always interesting to see peoples takes on Mythos creatures, I have the original Dieties and Demigods that has Erol Otis's stylized but cool take on them.

Is there anybody out there, besides those ill disguised Mi-go by the fence?
On one page the only posts were from the keeper and I for a while. I'm assuming people are busy with life, but feel free to do things and not wait for the tunnel to resolve.
Am I just being a pushy d&^k?? I have been known to kill some threads now and again, but I thought we were proceeding in goodly fashion.
I have been waiting to post for every one else, but I'll keep cranking along until I go insane if necessary
