Knights of the Old Republic II : Sith Lords.

So, has anyone played this? I was wondering how good it is. It is selling over here for $20 and I might invest in it. What do you all have to say about it? Thanks in advance.

I enjoyed it, but it's kind of clear that parts of it weren't finished. I think the opening part is pretty brilliant and things up until the very end are at the very least good. However, there does seem to be a pattern of "four planets to visit to move the plot, one of them has to be a total pain in the butt" between this and the first game. Substantially darker than the first with a few very interesting characters. And you can take your character to epic level with a prestige class based on your base class and light/dark rating.

I don't regret getting it when it came out and I think for $20 you'll get a lot of value out of it.

SWEET!!! Thanks James. ~WEG~ I shall install it tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

Played it and loved it. My only gripe is at the end you can become obscenely powerful and it almost takes the fun out of the last few battles.

Allow me to add my 2 copper pieces. KotOR II was, as with any sequel to a "Game of the Year", both an improvement and a disappointment.

One major improvement was to expand the way characters could craft and improve items. This was a really nice system that allowed you to obtain numerous helpful items without worrying about having the credits to buy them, or the traders from which to purchase them. It allowed for a great deal of variability as to how you could outfit your character and those in your party. To go along with this, they also increased the number of items in the game that you could obtain, and threw in some great stuff like different styles of jedi/sith robes.

The other major improvement was the influence system that allows you to move your allies further along the path to light or dark just by the way you interact with them, or the actions you take. And every ally had a neat little backstory that you could tease out of them if your influence was high enough. And if you played your cards correctly, you could turn at least 3 of your followers into jedi/sith.

As for disappointment, there was no significant improvement in the graphics, and the storyline was considered by some to be nowhere near as good as its predecessor. I agree with that assessment, however, it was still enough to keep me entertained. Some of the characters were pretty cool as well (can we say evil wookie), but others were kind of blaah. Lastly, as James stated above, the story did have some definite wholes in it (the big one dealing with HK-47).

Overall, the game was OK. I've played it multiple times, and still pick it up every so often. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go finish my chores so I can play it again.

Sovereign Court

I didn't care for it, but KotOR was such a great game, the best star wars game I've ever played, that almost anything would have paled in comparison. I didn't like the story or some of the NPCs, some of the new powers didn't seem balanced (most fights I just force pushed my enemies to death), and I hated a number of the changes to the game setup (like innovatory for example) . . . the voice acting was average to horrible . . . and I mean horrible!

Actually this needs a special point: there's one NPC, worst voice I think I've ever heard. There's a couple of missions where you're required to take him and I seriously considered giving up on the game.

Speaking of which, there are quite a few missions were you're required to take certain NPCs along . . . this happened in the original game a few times, but in KotOR II this happens far too often. It's especially painful if you hate said NPC.

KOTORII is one of my favorite games of all time. I happen to be playing it again right now, and I plan to do so one more time as a Cade Skywalker type character. It's definitely worth the 20 bucks.

Well, you KotoR II experts. Can you all give me any tips? For example, where do I get my lightsaber? Are the Jedi robes really worth it? What Jedi powers would you recomend? Right now, I am in the old military base on the planet.

For a RPG the Story is everything... Because of time constraints put upon the developer by Lucas Arts the story was never finished, In fact much of the code for what is missing is there just the code was not finished...

Because the Story never really felt complete for me I was really disappointed with this game..

The First KotOR is still my favorite game of all time *Followed by Mass Effect*

1) you get your lightsaber after you visit an ice planet and speak with a very pised off ex-jedi. I foget the name of the planet.

2) jedi robes are alwsys worth it. You won't be able to ues most of your jedi powers if you wear anything else.
3a)good; heal, force sprint, throw lightsaber
3b)evil; force push, force lightning, strangle

Does energy shield protect you against lightsaber damage? I was just wondering.

Yeah, shields protect against blaster and lightsaber damage (as well as other things).

~WSG (Wicked Sith Grin)~ Sweet!!! I was wondering about that. Then energy shield is a must take.

Assembling a lightsaber is actually a minor quest that you will recieve after you leave Telos. It will be given to you by Bao-dur, who will offer to put the lightsaber together once you have all the parts. These parts will be obtained through various sources, especially ones on Nar Shadaa (which is why I usally go there right after Telos). If you can get it assmebled before you meet Visas, then you can gain another lightsaber from her when you defeat her in battle.

The jedi robes are OK (upgrade to Master as soon as you find some), but there are other options that provide better armor, and do not restrict the use of force abilities. Two I can think of: Jal Shey armor and Zeison Sha (not sure on the spelling) armor. In the end, you'll be so badass, that the type of armor you wear might not really make much of a difference.

As for jedi powers, there are a lot of great ones, but for me the best are:

Stun/Stasis/Stasis Field
Stun Droid/Disable Droid/Destroy Droid
The three levels of Heal
Shock/Lightening/Forcestorm
The three levels of Drain Force

My suggestion is to get the official game guide. Even if it isn't in print anymore, I think gamespot.com has it as a PDF. There are also some great FAQs at gamefaqs.com.

Thanks Aberzombie!

Liberty's Edge

It had its ups and downs, the biggest problems were the bugs still lingering behind. There is a fan restoration project to add stuff back into the pc game that was cut (at http://www.team-gizka.org/), but it hasn't been released publicly and the site is laden with spoilers. I've kept my install around in the hopes that they'll release it one day and create a more satisfying experience, as the end was the biggest disappoint in the game for me. Bugs aside, I enjoyed the game. It could prove interesting to see how the BioWare/LucasArts KotOR MMO relates to the first two games.
