Nualia's Escape


Rise of the Runelords


I have attempted to run the RoTR path around 6 times now. Each time things have fallen through towards the end of burnt offerings.

I have been reading about the path here for a while, and I have been thinking about ways to strengthen the ties between the first 3 adventures. One of the threads here mentioned mama Grumsh and Naulia working together. I thought that was a really interesting idea, so during the fight with Naulia, I had her teleport away.

I know in general that I want her at the ogerkin farm, but I'm not sure how to work her into the second adventure... Any suggestions on places where she could have an effect?

Maybe something while in the shadow clock somehow? Perhaps she was sent to the foxglove manor by Lamashtu in order to get something? Any suggestions on where I should go from here would be greatly appreciated.

In the second adventure, I think it makes sense that Nualia would be encounterd somewhere in Magnimar. However, since the Clock Tower battle has gotten a lot of "TPK" complaints, I wouldn't recommend putting Nualia there.

She might be hanging out in Aldern's townhouse. She's worked with the Skinsaw Men before, so she could also be encounted at the sawmill. I assume that no matter where she pops up, she's going to get away from the battle.

You could also save her in case the PCs are having trouble finding the next encounter in the plot. You could let them spot and follow Nualia to wherever the need to go next.

A word of advice: try not to make her escapes from the party look too easy.

We know that until shortly before the events of Burnt Offerings Nualia had been living in Magnimar, so I just said that she had a townhouse there. I said that Tsuto had one too, for exactly the same reason.


I wouldn't keep her around after Skinsaw unless she had some sort of thing going on in the town (whatitsname ferry or something). The only thing Mammy Graul would do with Nualia is crochet her skin into a new quilt.


I take that back: you could keep her offstage a while until your ready to run Sins of the Saviors and then have her be an assistant or in town liason to the Scribbler.
