Cool. I could probably take up to 4 players for this. I don't think I'd want to go higher, so I'll pretty much try to take the 1st four. However, ideally I'm looking for players that think they can check the thread about once a day or so, as I'd like to keep some momentum going with it.
I'll start a discussion thread in the not too distant future with some more ideas about what I have in mind. I'm thinking of starting out by trying to run an adventure out of my Mansions of Madness book or City of Arkham campaign book. I could also do a Dunwich type adventure. If you have any thoughts or preferences let me know.

Okay well that's five players so, I'll cap it there. I think Call of Chtulhu will be a good game for a play by post, as it is pretty heavy on role play and investigation and light on tactical movement and rules. I find combat to be a little dull in play by posts. I do enjoy it face to face games, but not so much in a play by post game. That's not to say there won't be the odd scuffle or gunfight in this game, but it certainly won't be the focus of play, which is typical of Call of the Cthulhu anyhow.
I have two main ideas in mind for how I was thinking of running this game. Let me know which one you prefer.
#1 The characters will be Private Investigators and will work for the same firm. The characters will be a little similar, but can be differentiated by their skill sets, personalities, and background. (This option might be a little weird with five players, but it could still work, as long as the players can suspend disbelief that 5 detectives are all working on a single case). In this case I'll probably be looking at adventures from my Mansions of Madness book and my Arkham sourcebook.
#2. The characters will be connected with Miskatonic University in Arkham and will be conducting some investigations in Dunwich on behalf of Professor Armitage (at least initially). For this option I would be using stuff from the Dunwich sourcebook quite heavily. Characters would mostly be academic types and would somehow be affiliated with the university even if only loosely.
Once we decide which route we want to take with the campaign we can get to making characters that will fit the bill.

I'm pretty happy with all options.
If pushed...
I know at least two scenarios from Mansion of Madness quite well - but not much about the Dunwich supplement...
So my preference would be Dunwich on the adventure front.
However, if eveyone else is in favour of Mansion I'm quite happy to suppress my forbidden knowledge :-)
As for the characters, I'm leaning vaguely towards the PI concept but I'd be perfectly happy with either.
Miskatonic: My only slight worry would be that as an Englishman, things like Fraternities are a -ahem- foreign concept to me.... but I'm sure I can find an excuse for my ignorance.(exchange student perhaps.)
Private eyes sounds good . As a suggestion, if we struggle a bit of differentiation we coudl always expand it to include maybe the PIs secretary/admin staff ? The choice of playing either noir-style PI or the ditsy flapper secretary both appeal :-)
As a question, what sort of turnover/regularity of posting are we hoping for. ( I'll likely do most of my posting early morning & late evening GMT/UK time).

I'm canadian so the whole fraternity and american style university thing is totally foreign too me as well. I was thinking in this case that the characters would be more tied to faculty than the student body.
I'm hoping that people can try to post daily if possible. I generally check threads briefly in the morning and then in the evenings. My posting is pretty much limited to evenings except on weekends.
