In my campaign, the PCs went to the bell tower, ran away, and haven't gone back. The bag guys are all alive and doing what they want to do. The Foxglove townhouse was sacked by the PCs (rendering it useless) and the bell tower obviously isn't any good as a hideout any more, but the NPCs have been free to do as they wish.
I figured that after two weeks of this Xanesha finally succeeded in her plan to murder Lord Mayor Haldmeer Grobaras. This gives Karzoug's runewell a nice little boost, but I'm not sure how much effect it will have on the grand scheme of things.
The PCs have been convicted of the lord mayor's murder in absentia. (Justice Ironbriar presided over that trial.) Currently they're on the run, making their way up to the Iron Peaks where they hope to find some relatives who can help them out.
Presumably there's some sort of deputy mayor whose responsibility it is to take over as mayor if the current one dies. It would be nice for the PCs if this could be Valanni Krinst, so I'll make sure that it isn't. Presumably it's whichever member of the Council of Ushers had the most influence. I know that the Scarnettis are desperate to find the so-called Star Killer, and are convinced that it isn't the PCs. They've been weakened by a lot of deaths in their family though (since a lot of them are greedy and thus prime targets), so rather than have one take over as lord mayor maybe I'll have one take over as deputy mayor.
I think that whoever the mayor ends up being will assume that Justice Ironbriar was able to find the truth and will thus want to make sure that any mayor killers out there are brought to justice in a hurry. I think that this will mean that he gives a whole whack of money to the Hellknights in exchange for them tracking down the convicted killers and "bringing them to justice".
Anything else I ought to be doing with this plot?
