Anyone Practice Parkour?

Does anyone here practice Parkour, or l'art du déplacement?

I'm joining a beginners' group here in SK. Anyone else do this?

I don't, but I have two friends who do. They are absolutely nuts.

Good luck.

Have a great time. I keep thinking to myself "I could break a hip doing that" so I gotta pass it up.

I started yesterday, and came home three hours later completely exhausted. The workout is tremendous.

My beginner class is three hours on Sundays and two hours Tuesday through Thursday. The only cool thing we did yesterday was handstands, which was the qualifier for the class--if you couldn't hold one for 15 seconds, you were out. Luckily we could help each other get into position--it was simply a test of strength and basic balance.

Today, my whole body aches :-(

Parkour Journal Update:

More ouch today, but I'm having a lot of fun hurting myself.

Wait... that doesn't sound right.

Anyway, we dropped ten people today; nine of them have a fear of heights, which is no good for this sport. One guy might have broken his middle finger, and I got the impression he doesn't like the instructors (who are a little intense, but I'm used to that sort of thing).

I overcompensated on a very small jump and thought I'd really hurt my ankle, but it was just muscle fatigue.

I sincerely hate running up stairs, but running down railings is not as hard as it looks, and is easier on the knees than using the steps. :-)

One of the greatest maxims in Parkour: wherever you go, you have to be able to get back. That's not as easy as it sounds.

I think I'm going to buy stock in Medtech; I'm burning through my little bottle of New Skin (knuckles and palms, *ouch*).

Can't wait 'til Tuesday.

Heh, No!

I used to do a bit of vadding back when I was in college a couple of decades ago. One time I mistimed a jump between buildings and got stuck riding on top of the trailer of a semi as it left town.

That was almost twenty years and over a hundred pounds ago. Absolutely insane!

Yeah! I'm working on dropping about 20 pounds. My speed work is too slow. It's tough, because I'm doing double my usual exercise now. I'm used to about 3600 calories a day, and to lose the weight I have to cut back on my intake pretty steeply. No more pizza, which is my favorite food :-(
