The Exchange 2/5

So I was going through the documentation which says PHB classes and races which is fine until I get to clerics now I expect that the Pantheon to use is the Golarion one but it doesn't say so any where. Additionally as long as I stay away from being evil myself can I worship an evil deity? I am considering a LN cleric of Achaekek or CN cleric of Rovagug.

Are they allowed?

I see no reason why not. As long as your character himself is not downright evil there's nothing in the rules to go against it. Besides, with the entire Cheliax faction dedicated to Asmodeus it'd be dumb to say the least not to allow Clerics from that faction to worship Asmodeus. They'd be forced to take a LN alignment though and couldn't pick up the Evil domain.

I take offense to that. Not every Cheliaxian is dedicated to Asmodues.

With MOST of the Cheliax faction dedicated to Asmodeus, then. :)

I'm keen to know if they allow "rebuking/inflict" Neutral Clerics or not as well.

Yes, you use the Golarion pantheon and yes you can worship an evil god as a non-evil character, so long as you stick to the one step removed rules for clerics and their alignment.

Yes, it's allowed. Be prepared to find an unhappy party, though, who'd rather have those heal spells ...

My parties sucked it up, as they'd rather have a happy Seebo on their team, than a Seebo who will be setting people on fire at night for making him violate his religious strictures by healing people.

How about the "Other Gods" and the various other outsiders? Particularly the Empyreal Lords, I think my next character is gonna be a Bard of Arshea

Um...you know you aren't going to get any spells from Aroden, right? I guess if you wanted spells, though, you wouldn't be a paladin.

I was wondering about the other gods myself. I am tempted to be a not quite sane cleric of Groetus.

I am assuming we can't use the alternative class features or the new feats of the Campaign book...

I think in the end that one has to be mindful of the core believes of the OP of PFS. You know promoting teamwork and the like. Thus charging a party member for healing is a big no-no.

In the end concept characters a cool but when no one wishes to adventure with that character because he/she is a choad, then you need to re-evaluate your idea on what a team player is.

Correct. Those are not allowed until PFSOP goes to PFRPG next August.

Believe me...I tried. :)

While there is nothing in the rules to prevent someone from playing the cleric of an evil god, and his alignment will have to be 1 step away from the evil gods alignment. This would mean an alignment spread of LN N and CN alignments for correspondingly evil gods. Deathboy brings up a good point. While such concepts can be a cool idea, the other players often resent when someone plays a cleric who isn’t a healer.
That being said, in my experience, there are often lots of role-playing opportunities for your character if you are the healer. Role-playing opportunities that go beyond proselytizing for your god, and charging for healing.
There are lots of interactions you can have with other NPCs. When you roll into a small throp, and begin helping the sick, doing marriages, funerals and baptisms, it is a great way to get to know the people in the community, and gather information. Shotgun ahem crossbow, weddings are hilarious to role play, particularly when you begin with the ever popular “Marwiage what brings us together today”
Just a few thoughts.
