Question on Skills

I have decided to make a monk and i was doing fine until i got to the skills section and there i got stuck.
1. the book says that i can only have as many ranks in a skill as i have hit dice. Now monks have a D8 dice. does that mean i can have 8 ranks in one skill or just one since im only at first level.
2. also when i went to tally up how many i had the book said to do it like the PH said to. So i went to the Pathfinder Handbook and noticed i got 4 skill points plus my intelligence. but i noticed in the pathfinder society book on skills the example person they did had alot more that just 4 skill points. sorry for this being so long.

It is my understanding that for season zero you make your character according to 3.5 rules as far as skills go. which would be (class base+int bonus)x4. Don't forget bonus for humans if you happen to be one. with a max of four ranks in class skills, and 2 for cross class with cross class costing 1 point for .5 ranks.

Season 0, as it states in the opening paragraph of the guide, is 3.5 core rules only. Please please please read the guide before creating a character or there are going to be some long, embarrassing moments at the game table.
