If you go to your My Pathfinder Society page, you should see the "character" listing, and you should be able to edit it with the "edit" option (don't click on the character name itself). Then you can rename your character and save the changes.
Just make sure not to post under that alias until you have the name straightened out - the name is locked down after you post 10 times with it.

Right.. figured that out. So, that's just an avatar for posting on the forums, then, and not a proper character of any kind? Why would I need another avatar besides the one I already have.

Ahaa.. There's an idea. Still seems kind of redundant to me, though. ;)
Supposing I wanted to post using a character avatar how would I go about it? Sign out with this account and sign in using the character name and... which password? My normal pw? Something else?

No such hassle needed! When you go to post, there's a little pop-up that asks which persona you'd like to post as.
