Handouts and Pictures

Second Darkness

When I pick out [copy] the pictures to print out for my player's the background [surround] for the pictures is black. Is there an easy way to make the background white...if only to save black ink!

Also the Handout 1, when "copied" only copies the background parchment image and not all the text. How do I get it to copy corectly?

Thanks in advance

If I recall correctly, there were several threads on this topic, and the general consensus was that you could copy-paste them with a transparent background on a Mac only (because of the file format used? Something like that). On a Windows PC, you will have to save the pictures and then edit out the black background (for example, using GIMP and its 'replace colors' tool).

Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The Microsoft suite (Office) has a "make Color Transparent" tool when you choose to edit; Works in Publisher and Powerpoint; Sometimes works well - sometimes not; e.g. Black is particularly difficult because ALL black will go away eliminating shadows, etc (So you end up needed to create a silhouette in black to go "under" the picture). If thats the case, you need to find an editing tool with either a "magic wand selector" or try your luck at MS Paint "fill color" (results are not spectacular);

Using Adobe Elements/Photoshop (or similar) with their myriad of selection options (feather, etc.) works best.

Paint "Fill" often works well enough for me - though since I was saving a lot of them for having on a black background Screen saver I stopped changing it - stands out better.

Funny enough - I was trying to *get* the blank background parchment for Handout #1. I had no trouble getting the text, which is in text form on top of the image. Best way to get the whole thing is take a screen shot, cut it out, and paste it twice in Word, resizing a bit to get two per page. But I wanted the blank background because I converted the text into Romanian, then Hindu, then back to English to give a version to a character who is Vudrani - barely speaks any common. The text worked great (she had basically no idea what she was signing), but the handout looks a little off.

You're close. The problem is that copy+paste on Mac *or* Windows converts the selected object from an image with transparency to an image without transparency. (And the color chosen to fill the transparent area is software dependent. I remember that most combos I tried ended up with black, but I found at least one combo that filled the transparent area with white—but I forget what that was.)

On a Mac, though, if you select the image in Adobe Reader, and *drag* it to your desktop, it's saved as a TIFF with transparency.
