Yeah, and as great as he has been I think he should have stayed retired. Still it should be interesting to see how this plays out.
Well he was stupid not to. He had the Packers willing to pay him $2 millon a year for the next ten years not to play. I wish someone would pay me that type of money not to teach school.

I had no idea there was another Dallas fan on the boards. I thought we were the new Roman’s Christians.
you are :)
It figures that a poodle would like the 'Boyz. Do you know who else likes the Cowboys?
Heck, at least you're not an Eagles fan. Those people are scary
And on topic, the Jets need all the help they can get.

God I hate the Eagles. To make matters worse Hank Baskett, I went to High School with him(He was an @$$), plays for them.
Anyway, the people here in town always go nuts when there's an Eagles game, or when he comes to town.
What funny is they always say he's a hometown hero, he donates large sums of money to the town, and he remembers his roots. Ya that's why he no longer lives in NM. And his big donation was signing a jersey for the local Hastings.
...Did I mention he's an @$$

I hear you. While i grew up disliking the Cowboys (as a lifelong Giants fan), I always respected them. They've always played my kind of football - good defense and a punishing ground game.
The Eagles, however, bring out the worst in me. City of brotherly love my @$$!

Yeah, and as great as he has been I think he should have stayed retired. Still it should be interesting to see how this plays out.
I've been following this fairly closely on the NFL Network (it's kinda hard not to, with the 24 hour coverage and all).
I get the impression that Brett didn't want to retire in the first place, that Green Bay forced the issue on him. The Packers were 1 game away from the Super Bowl last year, and I don't see them getting that close again anytime soon with a young, untested quarterback. It's baffling, really, why they would want to throw away a chance at another Super Bowl. Not to mention the fact the Favre would have been a fantastic mentor for their future quarterback. It's going to be fun to watch the Packers this year.
It will be interesting to see if the Vikings create discussions with the Jets. None of the news channels are talking about the poison pill regarding Minnesota in the deal. They're the team that could have the greatest impact from Favre, and the one team that Green Bay refused to talk to (they even filed a complaint with the NFL regarding Minnesota "tampering" with Favre, lol).
The next few days should be telling.

I think it's foolish to try to go out at the top of your game. You only ask yourself if there was another peak in your stats ahead of you. You should go out when it's clear that you're on the downward slope but early enough that you don't become either a team liability or a joke.
I think Favre should have stayed retired. There are people around here (southern WI) thinking he was pushed into making a decision too early by Ted Thompson. But considering all of the hemming and hawing from the previous summer, I can't consider any decision coming out of Favre "too fast". He seems to be a natural procrastinator on the topic and I can see wanting to get him to make some kind of firm decision.
I still think Favre made the right decision TO RETIRE. At the end of last year's playoff games, he was talking like a tired, old man. He wasn't talking like the QB who nearly led a young and improving team to another SuperBowl. Ten, maybe even 5, years earlier, he'd have been fired up and eager for the next season. But after all the successes, all he could talk about was how tired he was and how hard it had been. So I figure out right then that retirement was his best option.
I give big kuddos to Aaron Rodgers for largely keeping his head during all of this. His future has been jerked around by Favre over these last few weeks. And I hope the fans rally around him as they should when the season kicks off.

Couldnt agree more. He should have stayed retired....I think its a case of a man loving the game, and when camp started coming around, he forgot how he felt at the end of the season and the old excitement started coming around again....and he got the bug to get back in it.
I think he wanted to go to a team that plays indorrs though, because the 'frozen tundra' must be harder on an older guy than a younger guy.
Reality is though, there comes a time when you just have to make the hard choice. I think he shouldve gone into coaching though. become a quarterback coach, and then gradually work into offensive coach etc...

As a Panthers fan, I can relate to every misery experienced by a franchise...
Star player out for the season? check
Star player deciding to mail-in the season? check
Really bad personnel decisions by owners? check
Players involved in major crimes? check
Players involved in embarassing behavior, on and off-field? check
Truly abyssmal seasons? check
Being picked the pre-season favorite only to choke spectacularly? check
Ye gawds I love this game...

Its really hard to get a good picture on what happened with Farve, I personally don't think either side ever said the complete truth.
Having followed the whole mess though, this seems to be the general line of events.
1. Farve retires
2. Farve tells the pack he is thinking about coming back.
3. Pack managemnt charters a jet to go visit Farve.
4. Prior to that trip, Farve calls the pack and says he's staying retired.
This was all fairly early in the offseason. If he hadn't waffled then, he'd be the starting QB for the packers this season.
5. The pack plans for a future without Farve. They look at free agents, they have the NFL draft, they sign contract extensions to keep their stars.
6. Farve has a chat with his old buddy thats now coaching with the vikings.
7. Farve wants to play again.
8. Circus ensues.
Personally, I think he's going to have a horrible season, he's showing up late to camp, he needs to learn a new offense, and the Jets offensive line was completely revamped in the offseason, so who knows how they are going to do.
Lastly
E A G L E S GO EAGLES!
As for you Giants, Cowboys and Foreskins fans, we hate you too, enter the Link at your own risk.

I've been following this fairly closely on the NFL Network.
Don't you mean the Brett Favre Network? I was really pissed when they kept cutting away from the Hall of Fame Bowl to show us the crowd waiting for Brett Favre, Brett Favre's plane landing, Brett Favre getting off the plane, Brett Favre walking into Burger King to get a cheeseburger, Brett Favre shopping at Pottery Barn. It made me want to jam the point of my "Dion Sanders is overexposed" button through my eyeballs.

This is what I don't understand about the trade from Favre's perspective. He likely WON'T make an immediate impact with the Jets (sorry Yoda), they are clearly in a building phase. As Bill pointed out, Favre's not exactly a spring chicken. He did look tired at the end of last season, and an old man at camp last week. How many seasons does New York think he's got left in him?

As for Brett, I think he's being childish. He should have stayed retired, enjoyed his money, and given Aaron Rodgers his blessing.

Interesting. I do not think I have ever come across someone that hates the Lions or the Bengals. It certainly seems to be en vogue to hate the Cowboys though.

As big a deal as the sports media made about them when the Superdome reopenned, I had expected them to just be handed the trophy at the start of the season.

Its because they were (are) good for so long. Much of the 90's were defined by the prison rehab team that included such non-criminals as emmit and aikman.
NOw you have possibly the most potent offense in the NFC. Also, they have fans in every state. Its easy to hate Dallas because, like Raiders fans, they're often in your own back yard.
Now my dislike for the cowboys comes from being long time division rivals. But it is tinged with a good bit of respect.

My girlfriend is from Wisconsin, I'm a lifelong Jets fan. The two of us are tickled pink. As far as I am concerned, this is one of the best things to happen to me this summer (as a disclaimer absolutely nothing else interesting happened to me this summer).
As inelegant and rushed of a solution as it may be, it solves the NY Jets QB controversy once and for all.
I've been a longtime Chad Pennington fan, and he will be missed. But if GB couldn't hang on to Favre, I'm glad to take the chance on whether or not he still has a year or two left in 'im. The man is a football legend. I watched last season as Green Bay defied all expectations and more than once felt a little "green" with envy.
My warmest regards for Green Bay fans who wanted Brett to stay. I know this is difficult for you. I couldn't imagine how the back and forth has affected you all. I'm fairly sure Aaron Rodgers can pull the trigger with your new offense, and I sincerely think you still have a great team in the works.
Please remember that there are two sides to every story.

Wasn't there a lineman who was caught with a suitcase full of coke in his trunk? I was always amazed how cowboys players got off almost scott free from just about any crime. And still win.
"Oh, he killed a nun and burned down an orphanage? I'm sure he's real sorry sir. We'll let Jerry Jones know about it and he'll probably make him run laps. So are the charges dropped? Yes? good." No, I'm not bitter or anything. Maybe if someone on that team had actually served jail time the Giants could have won a few more games. sigh...
Fun times indeed.

He's shown a lot of poise for quite some time. Favre doesn't like to share the spotlight, even when injured.

$20 million total not to play?
I smell a business opportunity.
Dear Brett Favre,
For $750 thousand a year I will be happy to provide you with whatever you feel is missing in your life that makes you want to come back and play professional football. If you want receivers to throw the ball to, my employees will fit the bill. If you want an offensive line I can do that too. I can even have some of my employees play an opposing defensive line, with a no sacking rule. If you need adoring fans I will fill a few bleachers with the most die hard Brett Favre fans available. If you want reporters and camera crews I can provide those too.
This initial proposal would be for 8 60 minute games, which may seem like you are only getting half a season, but since you will be on offense at all times that really works out to about 16 games because you never have to sit on the bench waiting for your defense to get you back the ball.
For signing up I will also offer one free playoff game, complete with the tying TD drive in the last 2 minutes of regulation. Followed by a guaranteed coin toss win in your favor and the winning score in OT.

This timeline, while excellent for this year, leaves out two prior years of also waffling over retirement. If I ran the pack I'd be fed up with Brett too.
That said, I think his performance in NY will go as the Jets offensive line goes. If they can protect him, he'll be effective. If they can't, this will be his last year.

As an actual Green Bay Packer shareholder, I think this ended up the best that it could for the Packers considering what happened. I had really hoped that Brett would stay retired and become a beloved stateman for the Packers and the game, but I should have seen a return coming with all of his flip flopping on retirement over the past 6 seasons or so. Does anybody remember Reggie White playing for Carolina after he retired? How about Joe Montana for KC? I didn't think so. I have the feeling that this might end up like that. At least we will get some form of compensation for our troubles.

I'm just happy he is not coming here to Tampa Bay. What a media circus it would have been.
Yes. Because now he's coming to New York City. Where the Media Circus Big Top is made of stone.
I live in NYC and absolutely hate the NY sports media. They will throw rose petals at your feet and worship you in one moment and then gang up like a bunch of rabid pit bulls the next. Its ridiculous. I always felt bad for Chad Pennington (and feel bad again because of this mess) but hopefully he lands somewhere where the daily sports section isn't constantly picking him to pieces.
Its going to be rotten to see them tie a noose around Favre's neck if he doesn't produce a miracle.
All that being said. . . GO STEELERS!
