When I first started discussing 4E with a cousin who's a longtime roleplayer himself, he said he thought a lot of design decisions for the game came out of focus groups. Before I get in trouble with the 4E crowd, I am not saying that focus groups will deliver bad game design. Some of my favorite games have almost definitely been modified after focus group testing.
So for the Paizo big wigs out there:
What do focus groups tell you that playtesters don't? Or vice versa? Is there a difference when it comes to roleplaying games? I realize the Pathfinder RPG is an ongoing development through mostly playtesting ideas, but I'm trying to understand how some decisions would get made.
