Too many books

The Exchange

In preparing for my next campaign, I have just discovered something: I have too many options available to me. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, except that some of them are proprietary and are incompatible with each other. Ex. The Book of Experimental Might and the Pathfinder RPG. Now, I know I could pick and choose a few different things from each one and get some weird combination, but my houserules would conflict with that outcome. I was thinking of just going with Pathfinder for the coming campaign, but in my head I am still attached to many of the ideas in the BoXM. What have been your experiences with either of these books in use?

I did a straight swap from RAW and used the familiar and turn undead rules from the BoXM and liked them a lot.

Haven`t run Pathfinder edition yet, so I can`t say how BoXM interacts.

You should use the material that best fits the campaign you're designing. Only if you're not sure what kind of campaign (fluff-wise) you're going to design should this problem surface.

The Exchange

I guess I just want to do too many things, and I've been designing multiple different fluff-oriented concepts. But in mulling over all of the different options, I'm not moving forward in any of them. I have another couple of weeks before I'm going back home, so I need to get in gear as far as choosing a system is concerned...

I'm going with Pathfinder. Though I still might use the "feat every level" concept proposed in BoXM, as well as the "grace and health" mechanic.

The Exchange

After thinking about it for a little while, I am definitely using Pathfinder. BoXM can wait a little while longer.

I perfer too many options to too few.

Don't have BoEM but currently revamping my home game to Pathfinder but with Conan's Parry and Dodge rules, along with with WOWRPG's Tinker and Tech rules.

For those in the know I'm keeping Armor as AC bonus, as well as helments but Shields will now add to Parry. To give the game balace AC bonus also gives equle penalty to Dodge. And like all good OGL games I let in most races and classes form other games. Sadly my players only have one or two Wizards books, they simply aren't into it the way I am.

Anyways good luck and good playing.
