*minor spoilers down below for Crown of the Kobold King*
I have rewarded PCs in the past for giving evil items to churches (usually their own church) with gold (75% value of the items). The churches were willing to give that gold for two reasons, first because it removed evil tools from the land, and second they were willing to help fund the PCs to keep finding tools of evil (sort of a beneficial loop).
However, I have a new idea for my group now. I just finished running Crown of the Kobold King. The group has the Human Bane greataxe, the Heartripper dagger, and the gauntlet Grasp of Droskar. The dwarven ranger (ranged fighter, heh) put on the gauntlet, and now wants it OFF. The paladin of Iomedae is interested in its powers, but not the god nor the evil runes, etc. No one wants to use the axe nor the dagger, and they don't want it falling into the wrong hands.
The churches presence in Falcon's Hollow is extremely limited (I also killed off the priestess of Iomedae in town for future RP). So, the group must dispose of the items by themselves.
Here's my plan: I want to reward the PCs for their faith. I also want to reward the players and let them keep the gauntlet. [Note: the characters are 5th level, and I am somewhat relaxed on wealth levels.] So...
The cleric of Saranrae can first buy some land and build a crude shrine (the player was planning that anyway). Then she will pray over the Human Bane axe, and Saranrae will answer by transforming it into a Undead bane Scimitar (the player wants one anyway).
The paladin will clean up the existing temple to Iomedae, begin investigation into the murder of the old priestess, and pray over the Grasp Of Droskar. [The cleric will cast Remove Curse first, to get it off the ranger.] Iomedae will transform the gauntlet into something more of her image, including the color turning golden and Iomedae's runes covering it. Most of the powers will remain the same (however, it won't be painful when the fist is formed), except for the Stone Shape 1/day. That will change into something else 1/day (don't know yet).
Finally the Heartripper dagger will be destroyed in a ritual by the sorceress character. I have yet to think of a reward for this. I was thinking of a Wand of Cure Moderate Wounds, and something else.
So, what are some of your thoughts on this trade?
Good?
Bad?
Alternative?
Cheers!

Why should human bane necessarily be evil? If they only use it against evil humans, doesn't that make it good?
The dwarf already has his chosen axe. The cleric and paladin have their own chosen weapons. Falcon's Hollow is 90%+ human population, with many of them selfish/borderline evil, as well as evil. Not a nice town right now. Selling the axe would most likely mean it will fall into the wrong hands.
The players don't want to be 'packrats' and have gear strapped to all parts of their bodies, waiting for that specific scenario when they bust it out. I agree with them.
Hence this alternative.
So, with that in mind, and for the other parts, what do you think?

I'm not too familiar with the Pathfinder deities, but perhaps something like Stone to Flesh, or a corner-case immunity to petrification while worn?

How about a curse placed by the dagger upon the Sorceress, which while semi-negative, can be used as a power, perhaps allowing some Su touch attack(similar to Vampiric Touch) usable Charisma Modifier times a day. The downside is that it must be used at least once a day, maybe just once a week, or that character is Fatigued untill it is used. You could even say that the curse was placed by the dagger before its destruction in an attempt to scare the Sorceress off, but then she stuck it out and Fate stepped in, making it so the curse was not completely malevolent.
And finally, each of these characters should get some experience points for their work.

While I am not familiar with what a heartripper dagger does completely, maybe she can absorb some of the remnant magical powers during the destruction process, granting her a new spell, another spell per day or two, or maybe give her a +1 to caster level as a gift from the gods. Maybe it can be absorbed in a way that she can transfer the power into X number of spells (where X is any arbitrary number you want), and those spells can be cast as if maximized, enlarged, extended, or what have you without the requisite feats or increased casting time or spell level. Maybe have the dagger leave blood-red shards which when used as an additional material component, facilitating the metamagic effects (in this case X shards are left after the destruction of the dagger, again, arbitrarily choosen numbers).

Hmm, I like some of those ideas, though I am reluctant to give extra spells, etc.
The sorceress already has a special magical staff the group 'won' in Faerieland. It is different from regular staffs, more like a rod really but in staff form. It has powers that grow with the wielder. The sorceress also got the Kobold King's crown, which is powerful enough in itself.
So, the sorceress is handling the dagger's destruction, but the reward probably won't be for her. Sorry, I should have been clearer on that bit ;)
I was thinking of a reward that would be good for the group, hence the wand of CMW.
I like the idea of the dagger shards having residual power though. Perhaps the shards could be used as weapon or armour crystals (from MIC). Based around fire, healing, divination, and perhaps negative energy [the powers of the Heartripper dagger].
Hmm, good thought path there.
Cheers!
