I'm not a map-maker by any stretch of the imagination, but I downloaded a cool free terrain generator, and within a couple hours of playing with it put together a map for an adventure I am creating. I then used GIMP to label it.
What do you guys think? Here is The map

Looks pretty good, for a map generator, I have to admit.

Ah...sorry the terrain generator is L3DT, by Bundysoft. I have the free version. There is also a "for pay" Pro version.
I'm pretty happy with it considering I have absolutely zero experience with this sort of thing. Went through one of their tutorials and made this. I'm still not sure how a lot of the aspects of the program work, but I'm going to play with it a bit more.

It's fractally goodness!
Not too bad, but, to make it 'printable', you would want to play with it a LOT - like taking down a little of the layers so it doesn't look like the grand-canyon on the left there.
Hmmmm...I didn't even think about printing. You're right in that it might not print too well. It's supposed to be a lake in the craterous remains of a long-dormant volcano :)

I tend to think of print first, since - despite being a game programmer, etc, yadda yadda, I still do prefer printed-out materials. So, I eye things accordingly.
