Last week I was at the local B&N in the game section with their huge pile of 4E book on an endcap. next to it is a selection of other RPG stuff as well as The Complete Idiots Guide to Dungeons and Dragons, and The Complete Idiots Guide to Being A Dungeon Master. The punchline. THe guides were all 3.5. Imagin some newbee buying a full core set and then picking up the guides. Pricless!

What I saw at B&N was piles of 4th edition books scattered over 3 areas, I'm not sure if that means they are selling like hotcakes or if they weren't moving at all. I'm leaning towards the latter.

I especially love that you didn't inform anyone who worked there about the error of their ways.
LMAO, I thought the same thing - I love it. I, too, would have discreetly walked away without a word, laughing inside. Perhaps some big mouth, know-it-all fanboy shall walk in and make a big deal of it to correct the incompatible display.

with the B&N that I go to, they have one table full of books and a few on the shelf. I'm in there a few times a week (It has a Starbucks attached to it) and unless they have boxes of 4E books in the back to restock, it doesn't seem to be selling at all.

I am so tired of having to go around and solve all of your misdeeds.
Sadly, I am the type of person to correct them. They now have seperate levels for 3.5 edition and 4th. Is OCD an alignment choice?

Heh. I could just see that - ADD, ADHD, OCD, CFS, and, for those of us who are female, a sub-alignment called PMS.
I found that same situation at Borders (which gave me a giggle), but didn't say anything as I didn't want to bring attention to the fact that they had the books out three days early.

I live in a fairly large city in Florida.
The day of release my local comic/game shop sold 7 copies of the PHB and a smaller number of each of the other two. They also sold a ton of minis.
Since then, despite being merchandised in the RPG section and in a WOC dump in the high-traffic area, they have not sold **one** further copy of any of the books.
This, according to the owner. He is not pleased.

PMS? Is that a case where your alignment changes to Chaotic evil for one week out of the month? ;) (If my wife reads this, I'm toast.)
Don't forget BPD (Bipolar disorder) and MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder, which I think is the alignment of most of us DM's.)

i would have made the correction. i like 4th edition. my next campaign is going to be 4th edition. 4th edition is far superior to 3.x. i wish paizo would switch.
i played at d&d game day, and my flgs in albuquerque sold out of 4th edition. i have heard that all the hastings here also sold out that same day.
i feel its going well. i love wizards of the coast. i am going to join the dndinsider once im able. the only other writing that i have seen that is anywhere near the quality have been former wizards people. i like paizo stuff. i like monte cooks stuff, i like nic's stuff. i like goodman games stuff. (i do not know if goodman is former wotc, but he should have been) the vast majority of the rest is crap.
i support the new license. hopefully it will stop every want to be game designer with a computer from turning out money wasting junk.
long live wizards of the coast.
so, flame me.

Flame you? Why? You are simply acting in accordance with the stats posted in your profile. Seems more like a good RP award should be given to you.
I would have to somewhat agree with you on a few points. Many of the writers and developers that we know and love today broke into the wider market by virtue of having WoTC on their resumes. I don't see that as a bad thing, rather as a good experience in how to function in the market.
As far as Wizards being great in and of itself, on that I reserve judgment. Much of the most beloved products of WoTC was penned by many of the authors and developers that now work for other companies. Does this mean that WoTC now lacks good writers? Not necessarily. It does mean that the authors who contributed to some of the first products that got me really excited about D&D in many long years are now doing other projects that I am much more interested in following up on than simply sticking with WoTC/D&D brand loyalty.
I have Paizo brand loyalty for me now. A great deal of which I attribute not to blind loyalty (a quality that I don't possess), instead a great faith in the array of talented and imaginative writers at Paizo who genuinely care about the customer and what we think.
Thank you.

In all seriousness, I'm glad you are happy with WotC. I am not. I feel they have diverged too far from the Gygaxian mythos that made D&D what it was. They have ripped apart the system, trashed the cosmology, ruined Forgotten Realms (IMHO) and used a marketing strategy that has been both arogant and insulting to the core fanbase. Pathfinder is the system that I will continue to support due to their quality, their respect for the customer, and their ability to recognise that most of the people buying their products are adults. Because of these differences, i will not give WotC or Hasbro for that matter another dollar until they fix what they have done. In the mean time all of my gaming money will go to Paizo (and any other company that strives for that level of quality.).
I hope you don't feel flamed. That's not my intention, but be aware that there are alot of us who feel angry and betrayed by WotC and since WotC is unwilling to listen to our complaints (I still have the nice form letter from when I E-mailed them)Some will take it out on those who jump to their defense.

I really like Wotc products. I typically buy Wotc first and 3pp second. Beyond that even though I plan on playing 4e I am still finding great inspiration with the products Paizo has/is producing. WARS art for the Iconic characters for PRPG is some of my favorite I have seen anywhere.
Personally, I think the market will bear both editions running happily(just give the nerdrage time to stop boiling over). Also, I think a good idea is a good idea no matter what edition it comes from.

Oh , and the only store we have in the area has 4e books that have been gathering dust. They get moved alot just no one has taken them home. Kinda funny since they sold out 4 of the last 3.5 PHB they had this past few weeks.

PMS, also known as "Mad Cow Disease", haha, just joking ladies!
As for the fellow who likes 4E, I hear you loud and clear. I admit there were a very small portion of quality d20/3.5 books published under the OGL. As far as campaign settings went, I thought Black Company was quite good, as was Conan and the Game of Thrones book (beautiful book). The problem was that most of those publishers either put out one book and stopped, or put out too many books which began diminishing in quality.
Conan for instance was plagued with editing mistakes, bad binding problems, and some lack of playtesting issues, but the core books were great. Then they release 2nd edition which still had mistakes, but they also went to a crappy black and white book with garbage artwork.
I'm satisfied with the quality that WotC is putting into their books, and plan on buying all of them, excluding the FR stuff and adventures, up until at least the PHB2.

as for capitals, never never never never.
i was an army paralegal for 8 years. i know how to type. i make a conscious effort not to use capitals. especially online. (what i don't know how to do is spell, or simple math, but, i can shoot/move/communicate)
as far as what is gygaxian, gygax himself said that 3rd edition was not d&d in his opinion. i heard him say that. so, with that. you would really have to ask yourself what is gygaxian d&d, and is that the d&d i want to play. if you say yes, you need to pull out your 1st edition stuff, or even his lejendary adventures stuff (wouldnt know for sure, i have never looked at it)
and if gygax said that about 3rd edition, then he would probably say the same about pathfinder. i am not concerned with playing gygaxian d&d. i am concerned with getting together with my buddies, drinking some beer, roleing (i just made up that word) some dice.
long live dungeons and dragons, (which ever edition you enjoy) and lets fix those display issues. we dont want some kid talking his mom into buying stuff that is obsolete. you wouldnt let him buy a 286 would you? of course not. you wouldnt even let him buy a 386. so why would you let him buy a mixture of 4ed and 3.x ed?
