First of all if you're in my group, shoo!
Does anyone have any fun, but short encounter idea's for Magnimar? It's not as well documented as Korvosa and I was wondering about encounters that would capture the flavor of the city.
So, any ideas?
And I need some encounters to throw in after the sawmill but before they get their butts kicked at the clock tower.

I am in this very situation right now, about to offer my party a few "options" for XP before facing Xanesha.
- Alabaster Downs: The PCs encounter a group of young nobles "slumming" at one of the nicer taverns on the shore. The young men are students at Alabaster Downs, a university for rich & affluent types. There is a tense encounter (games of chance, a non-lethal duel, something of that nature), but the socialites don't hold a grudge. A few days later one of the PCs is approached by one of the young men, proposing a plot: "Steal for me the ParZathian Scrolls from the universities' museum; I *know* they hold some clues of ancient Thassillon, but Master Than won't let me view them!"
- Andwan Legacy
- Phindal's Livery and Courier Service
That's all I got, but for my group one of those is enough to send them to 7th level (or quite close).
EDIT: In general, when I need a quick side trek before the next big thing, I go for the pre-printed stuff. Dungeon, Vicious Venues, Steal This Hook, etc. This is my first time with a whole pre-printed campaign, and I'm finding DMing to be such a breeze!

My party needed more XP also, so I added two levels of rogue to each of the faceless stalkers. I gave them each the feats Combat Expertise and Improved Feint. One of them lost Improved Initiative and the other lost Combat Reflexes. It made the encounter at the townhouse more challenging, and gave the party the extra XP needed.
