So my group has decided to try 4e, and because of scheduling and such, we cant all share the 3 books in the group, or some cant afford to buy them.
So my question is, has an online generator been made yet, like there was for 3.x?

Yes there has been an on-line character generator made . . . By WotC no less. Don't you remember from Gen Con that they touted it as one of the fantastic equivalents of a DVD "Special Features" providing not only a statistics generator for the crunch, but a visualizer for your fluff.
Now, if you're asking if there is an on-line character generator that's currently available . . . . No, it's not available yet.
I expect the DDI character generator to be pretty nice once released. Until then, though, you could always try this out. It's a non-official 4E port of Heroforge. I've looked it over and it seems pretty solid, but who knows, it could have some bugs that haven't been found yet.
