As the title suggests I just got my gazetter in...took a month for it to get delivered. Anyway I just got done reading...now I finally understand some of the board posts. And now I have a few questions...
1) Has anyone created a new Height and Weight Chart for the races or has Paizo released one and I haven't seen it? I noticed Elves are taller than humans now.
2) The interesting little side/back stories hidden in the context...in the beginning of the book it states Paizo will explain some further and some are for each differing DM to decide and make up more on...is there a list of which ones? I would hate to start doing one because my PC's all really interested in it to only have Paizo release a version of it.
3) As a fan of dwarves I noticed this one...the dwarves gather for a "meet" once every 200 years. This sounds like a great hook to get an adventure going into some underdark areas, old dwarven ruins, etc. Now when was the last meet? I would hate to have one to only see Paizo later release a AP that reflects this and now I have two of these "meets" in like a 2yr or less span.
4) Now maybe this is minor, but i'm curious...896 (Age of Enthronement) Aroden mortally wounds Tar-Baphon...3203 Tar-Baphon returns as the Lick-King. How long is the process to become a Lich? Has it changed in Pathfinder?
5) This might already be covered in another read, if so please re-direct me there...Page 10, the Cleric: Spontaneous Domain Casting?? Pathfinder got rid of Domains...so what do they get instead now?
6) History yet again...2555 (Age of Enthronement) "The city of Azir exiles all clerics, burns their temples, and enacts the Laws of Man"
What are the "Laws of Man"? I didn't find them further on in the Gazetter.
Please keep in mind these are the questions I had...as a Product...I FREAKING LOVE THIS!!! I just wish Pathfinder could've came out sooner!! I have never been happier about spending money on gaming products!
Thanks for creating this Paizo crew...and please keep up the good work!

The Pathfinder RPG rules are not going to be utilized by the Adventure Paths until the release of the actual rulebook; until then Pathfinder still uses the 3.5 rules and thus spontaneous domain casting.

OK, I get that. Now has anyone created a way to implement this into the AP using the Pathfinder RPG rules?

Yeah, from the sea, you can see all four sets of windows on Foxglove Manor. The basement looks out over the sea, out the side of the cliff. As for the "secrets" of becoming a lich, one of the things about liches in Golarion is that each lich more or less has to seek his own route to becoming a lich. No two people can become a lich in exactly the same way. You can certainly use the research of others who became liches as a starting out point, but in the end, you'll need to do a LOT of research to figure out just how your own soul can survive the transformation. That's the main reason liches are relatively rare in Golarion, in fact. It's not a matter of secret recipes being hidden as much as the fact that there's NOT a secret recipe that works for everyone.

It's in the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide, page 5.

I don't think there's such a list. It's quite possible that Paizo doesn't even have a definite list for themselves.
But go ahead and develop something - even if later "canon" contradicts you.

There's a little bit more about it on page 49, in the article about Rahadoum, the Kindom of Man. I don't think there's a definite list of those laws yet (and there might never be an official one), but the first one is "Let no man be beholden to a god."

Thanks!! So then it's different how each character becomes a lich? So there is no guideline for this at all?
Out of curiousity was this creature (lich) covered in the Classic Monster's Re-visited?

Ya I just found the one in the Players guide yesterday during my game. Which reminds me I need to add more RIP's...
As for just creating something...well i'm hesitant in that because I don't want to end up creating something that alters some part of Golarion...
Nice one...thanks for the help!

Nope. All the critters were on the low end of the power curve - not CR 1 and below, but relatively low, and all were either humanoids or otherwise more or less humanoid in nature.
The complete list:
Bugbear
Gnoll
Goblin
Hobgoblin
Kobold
Lizardfolk
Minotaur
Ogre
Orc
Troll
The book's awesome, by the way. And there has already been talk about further volumes (there's so many critters in D&D's history that could get a Pathfinder Makeover)

Yep - no Undead were revisited.

Classic Monster is just awesome, second only to the Gazetteer.

The procedure for becoming a lich is different for every spellcaster, since every spellcaster is a different person with different personality, spells, powers, and physical makeup. To become a lich, you basically have to study those who became a lich before you and use their research as hints and clues to your own path.

Did the book re-do the HD for the critters or just their ecologies and general behavior? I do love what Paizo did with the Goblin!!

Thanks for responding James...so I hate to beat what can be considered a dead horse, but I just want to make sure i'm understanding this. I totally get the roleplaying aspect of the no same way to become a Lich, but in terms of game mechanics is there any sort of guideline? Or is it just that one character can become a Lich in say a matter of days while others could take up to hundreds of years?

Cool thanks...i've been hesitant to purchase that product just because I have the MM and the critter is listed in there.

The key selling point for this book for me is how said critters fit into Golarion, and their associated mythologies. The stat block in the new format was a bonus.

The stats are still mostly the same. You might see small differences in skills, feats and/or equipment, but no "actual changes" are there, and you can keep using the monster manual entries (though they're also in there for ease of use)
And if you love the Paizo goblin, you'll love the rest as well: Hillbilly ogres, millitary hobgoblins and bugbears that literally live on their victims' fear...
And note that while the book is for Pathfinder Chronicles, it's very easy to use them in your average homebrew setting.

As of right now... there are no game mechanics.
Put another way, there's been DOZENS of game mechanics for how to become a lich over the past three decades or so. At this point, I'm leaning toward making all of those methods functional, and by saying that everyone's path to becoming a lich is different keeps all of those methods in the game.
Also: We haven't done hardly anything about liches yet. Eventually we will, at which point we'll very likely spell out the most common way to become a lich. That's not anytime soon, though.

4) Now maybe this is minor, but i'm curious...896 (Age of Enthronement) Aroden mortally wounds Tar-Baphon...3203 Tar-Baphon returns as the Lick-King. How long is the process to become a Lich? Has it changed in Pathfinder?
The fact that TAr Baphon returns as the Lich King in 3203 doesn't mean he became a lich in 3203
He could have become a lich in 897 and spent the following centuries accumulating power till he reveals ITself in 3203

There is a Linorm Queen, White Astrid mentioned on page 21 as killing her predecessor. There is also a reference to a White Astrid on pg39 who led 15 longships through the Arch of Aroden and put into port at Absalom.
Are these the same person?
Did she do the 'tour' before or after her rise to the "Queenship" ?

It's funny you should ask.
I created the character as "White Estrid," because I thought that name sounded fitting for a viking queen. In the Gazetteer, either I or maybe James (who contributed a half-dozen or so items to the timeline) spelled it "White Astrid" in the timeline. I believe Mike McArtor, while editing the book, unified it as "White Astrid."
In the hardcover, I changed it all back to White Estrid, because I forgot that Mike had made that change.
So, really, her name is White Estrid, and she is the same person in both historical anecdotes.

How I wish you had posted this before you sent the book off to the printers, Erik.
This might not matter to anyone else but a pedant like myself, but you should have stuck w/ "Astrid" and not "Estrid". Astrid is the modern English/Scandinavian spelling of a name that has actually been around since at least the Viking Age. Estrid...well, I've never run across it before in my days of studying Old Norse Language & Literature. Though I can't claim to have read everything ever written in Old Norse...
