Photographic reference for fantasy landscapes?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Sovereign Court

Like many GMs I'm always poking around for visual references to fascinating landscapes, terrain and creatures. Sometimes I feel players can get lost in the minutiae (all the game mechanics navel gazing) and lose a sense for the grandeur of the setting. A good picture can put them back in the moment.

Anyway, here's a great photograph of a rare phenomenon. Lightning volcano anyone? It happened in Chile a few weeks ago.

If I can find a way to work it into RotRL, I'm totally going to :)

In my d20 Modern Rise of the Runelord Campaign, the home of Karzoth is set on the "underside" (turned inside out) of Lake Superior. This photo is a perfect rendition of the gate through which the PCs will have to travel to conclude the adventure. THANKS!

That's bad. So, that's a plume from a volcano with a buncha lightning going off in it? Far out!!!

Now subtitle the Chilean lightning volcano with:

Druid
Who you calling "tree hugger?"

;P (Not an original - it showed up in Erik's Lemuria Press blog.)

I was more thinking:

Angel: "Uhh, Lord Gozreh, I don't think call lightning is suppo-"
Gozreh: "WHAT??"
Angel: ".... nothing."

Looks like Dravite lighting his farts.

Thats how I picture a battle between a pair of Elemental Lords to look.

Sweet.

Thanks for another very good add to my ever-growing list of DeviantArtists - I always look to that site for inspiration.
