Order of the Stick not going 4E

The reason paizo cited for not going 4E was (besides no material to work with) that the flavor/mechanical assumptions of 4E would not work with their world. The reason that the creator of Order of the Stick cited the same reason. Interesting. Perhaps Wizards should take note of that.

To be fair, he didn't rule out putting 4E mechanics in there. In fact, he mentioned "stupidity as a power source" in the latest comic, which is a nod to 4E power sources.

Hahaha! snort! Wizards giving a rat's ass about player interests. Oh, man, that's a good one!

"So, Bob and I have decided to take the game in a radical new direction!"

"Uhm, did anybody actually ask for that?"

"Shut up, Steve."

Did anyone actually read Burlew's explanation, rather than putting a spin on it?

Never mind.

Oh yes, I read it; I just couldn't pass up a laugh at the thought of Wizards listening to consumer feedback.

Saern! Excellent blurb in your profile.

I concur. It made me laugh a great deal.

Sebastian! Thanks.

Same here. Hilarious profile, Saern.
But those 'unlikely heroes' better keep their distance.

Exerpts from his post:

"What I DO know is that [the 4E rules] are not suited to my needs as a storyteller at this time."

"My job as an author is not to reflect the current trends, but to deliver the most entertaining story, and I feel I can best do that by continuing on as I have been."

So he's saying the new rules (new/delayed races and classes, changed classes, elmimination of schools of magic, etc) are not assumed in his world. And he is sticking with the system that his world is based on.

I'm sure he'll poke fun at 4E in the same way he has poked fun at positive energy ghosts, WoD, and plenty of other stuff, but the 4E rules are not going to be the basis of the story.

Yep.

I’m more interested in the fact that converting would introduce dozens of unnecessary changes in my story.... but when switching would force several of my main characters to significantly change their powers and abilities — and some wouldn’t even have their new abilities defined yet for at least another year!

And then it struck me -- 4e is the end of all current campaigns!

My home campaign has essentially survived upgrades to 2e, 3.0, and 3.5. But it doesn't look like it can survive 4e (or I'm now too old & lazy to do the necessary work).

You pretty much hit it on the head. WoTC has basicly said, if you want to run an existing game in 4th Edition you'll need to start from scratch.

What Sebastian said. I nearly pissed on myself from laughing so hard.

I got a laugh from reading your's, too, and the cranky old man's. Crap, that's half the boards. Sebastian, then. :P
