Did anyone actually read Burlew's explanation, rather than putting a spin on it?
Never mind.
Exerpts from his post:
"What I DO know is that [the 4E rules] are not suited to my needs as a storyteller at this time."
"My job as an author is not to reflect the current trends, but to deliver the most entertaining story, and I feel I can best do that by continuing on as I have been."
So he's saying the new rules (new/delayed races and classes, changed classes, elmimination of schools of magic, etc) are not assumed in his world. And he is sticking with the system that his world is based on.
I'm sure he'll poke fun at 4E in the same way he has poked fun at positive energy ghosts, WoD, and plenty of other stuff, but the 4E rules are not going to be the basis of the story.

Yep.
I’m more interested in the fact that converting would introduce dozens of unnecessary changes in my story.... but when switching would force several of my main characters to significantly change their powers and abilities — and some wouldn’t even have their new abilities defined yet for at least another year!
And then it struck me -- 4e is the end of all current campaigns!
My home campaign has essentially survived upgrades to 2e, 3.0, and 3.5. But it doesn't look like it can survive 4e (or I'm now too old & lazy to do the necessary work).

You pretty much hit it on the head. WoTC has basicly said, if you want to run an existing game in 4th Edition you'll need to start from scratch.
