I caught a sneak preview of it last night. Personally, I thought it was a better-made film than the first.
For one, the fight and battle scenes where much better - you'll find stylistic similarities to Troy, Gladiator, and Lord of the Rings, oh yeah and Army of Darkness/Evil Dead (don't ask, you'll know when you see it).
Centaurs with greatswords, gotta love it.
They could have done a better job on the minotaurs and beastmen, and several CGI scenes could have been cleaner.
Reepicheep steals the show (yes, that is EDDY IZZARD doing the voice).
One of Warwick Davis' better acting jobs as Nickabrick.
Lots of familiar looking faces in the cast - is that El Guapo?!
They DID take some license with the story, don't be shocked if several scenes diverge from the text, but they don't mangle the essence of the story (think Lord of the Rings rather than Starship Troopers).
I'd give it 3.5 out of 5.

I'll have to try and dig up an article I read that stated how nervous Disney was about the franchise and that depending on PC's success, that would give the greenlight to go forward with the Dawn Trader. Making $10 million less than the first movie on opening weekend with Indiana Jones looming is not a good start.
Time will tell, I'm interested to see what will happen.

Even if Indy eats in Caspian's sales, a movie like Narnia cleans up on DVD sales anyways. I saw it at a Sunday matinee on a day when there was alot going on in town, including graduation and the place was still busy. Good sign. I liked it equally to the first. I'm sure the fight scenes made this movie overly long though, but without them you'd have more of a TV show length movie, so no biggy. Reepicheep is awesome and Peter Dinklage (actor name not character!) played the best dwarf character I've seen in a long while (and yeah Warwick Davis's character was even pretty good-no flashbacks of Willow or Leprechaun in this flick). Hobbit director take note when you start casting over a dozen dwarves for one movie!

Best thing about the movie (and there were plenty of good things) was the fantasy creatures: each race had its own personality and fighting style, perhaps the best presentation of a fantasy setting in cinema history (because of the diversity and variance).
To wit:
Centaurs: loyal and honourable, charge into battle with greatswords
Minotaurs: gruff (not really used much), strong and prefer dirty fighting hand-to-hand
Dwarves: conniving and paranoid, fight with small weapons like rogues
Griffins: carry a passenger into battle or above battle
Satyrs: not in this movie much, but in battle they jump around and climb like mountain goats
Plus, each animal gets a few fights as well. There was a lot of detail, and if I missed a race/creature, please add to the list/modify as you see fit. I also tried to avoid spoilers by leaving some out.
