I was just reading through Burnt offerings again (seeing is I'm giving it a swing online) and I realized there is a high likelyhood that this pathfinder society pecking order may well resemble your staff at Paizo.
So who are the Venture Captains supposed to represent if so?

There are probably hundreds of venture captains throughout Avistan and Garund. It's _their_ bosses, the Decemvirate, who are the real movers-and-shakers.
And while the individual members of that august body (none of whom have been revealed yet) are not truly modeled on the Paizo staff, the entire organization is sort of a metaphor for the adventure publishing business. :)

The adventures of Eando Kline seem to indicate that Pathfinders are (usually?) lone wolfs, but I have to wonder if Pathfinders are some times ordered in to groups or units of 4, 8 or 12. A signature, perhaps?
