Gestalt Characters - Looking for Suggestions

3.5/d20/OGL

So we're playing gestalt characters in our new campaign, and I've volunteered to be the cleric. We're doing the Temple of Elemental Evil (2nd Ed reworked for 3.5) so we can expect to get beaten up a lot.

I'm trying to figure out what would go well with a Cleric as a gestalt. I was looking at doing a Favoured Soul/Wilder up, but they don't seem to be too useful. I should say that we're not allowed to play monks and I'm not too keen on playing a Druid as I played one in the last campaign.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what class would go well with Cleric? We can use pretty much any class and race, although I'd prefer to stay away from ECL. I wouldn't mind trying to mix it up with a psionic class but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

To maximize stacking, you want a class that will share some good attributes with a Cleric, so you really want Wisdom. Maybe Paladin for the super holy warrior?

Have a look at Complete Psionic - IIRC, Ardents use Wisdom for their powers and gain powers at the rate of a Psion. They are limited in what powers they can select from their mantles, but the cleric side will allow the flexibility. Divine Mind may also fit from a roleplaying viewpoint and can make for a more combat orientated character.

Liberty's Edge

If your DM allows it, how about the Factotum from Dungeonscape (p.13 in the book).

Really I guess it would depend on what sort of cleric you want to be. For example, if he's a warrior-priest, go with Cleric/(paladin/fighter/ranger/whatever) although as the game progressed, Kensai or Knight of the Chalice might be good choices.

If he worships Boccob, then a Cleric/Wizard or Cleric/Sorcerer might be appropriate.

Hopefully the above will help you refine your concept!

Y'know, I had dismissed the Ardent based on the psionic mantles thing but taking a closer look there are quite a few areas that would be very good from a cleric POV. Thanks!

The Exchange

After looking at this it made me think of a Favored Soul/Soul Knife, or a Favored Soul Knife. Seems like an interesting concept to me.......
