"Back-issues" and PDFs

I have asked this in another thread a long while ago and didn't get an answer, I have also seen this question asked in slightly different ways and had a negative answer. So, I will put my question again and hope and pray....

If I subscribe to any of your product lines, and then decide I want to buy issues from before I subscribed. Will I get the free PDF?

i.e. my current situation is I want the guide to Korvosa, in both print and PDF forms. I am quite happy to subscribe to the chronicles product line in order to get the pdfs, but I want to make sure I will be able to get this pdf too before I do....

The same goes for the modules line, I have a feeling I will give in soon and subscribe, but would I be able to get earlier ones (hangmans noose looks really good) and get the free PDF?

I can entirely see how you would say no, there would be nothing to stop me subscribing, ordering the bits I wanted, and then cacelling, but I still hope!

Thanks

nevyn.

You already guessed the answer...no. The problem is that the PDF is a perk for subscribing, so only subscribers have gotten a free PDF. In the intervening time since we launched last June, thousands of folks have bought our various products without subscribing and didn't get a PDF. If we allowed folks like you to get the free PDF, it cheapens the perk for the folks who jumped on board and subscribed in the past. The best and only way to get the upcoming free PDFs is to subscribe.

Don't worry, Nev, I'll email you a copy of my pdfs.

KIDDING!!

I actually just wanted to chime in here and remind you that, as a subscriber, you get a 15% discount on pretty near everything. So while you won't get earlier edition pdfs free, you can still think of it as subscribers at least getting a discount on the earlier edition pdfs.

Edit:

Actually, while I'm here, let me ask how much heartache would it be to retro-offer the pdfs for just the previous books in the series. Fer instance, if Nev bought Crimson Throne numbers 1 and 2 and then decided to subscribe with #3, would it be unreasonable to grandfather him into the pdfs for the two earlier books? He'd have no claim on the Rune Lord pdfs, but it might help someone who's waffling on whether or not to subscribe mid-stream.

The bold is the bit that gets me everytime I've seen you answer this question.

I am not asking about upcoming, or future PDFs, or getting PDFs whilst not a subscriber.

I am asking, if I could get PDFs of past products that I buy, whilst being a subscriber i.e. could the perk extend to products in the subscription line from before I subscribe.

I suspect your answer, I just think it would make a nice incentive for people who only recently found paizo, and like I said, that bold part has appeared every time I've seen it answered, and doen't cover what I'm asking... :)

Thanks for the quick response Lisa, it means a lot!

Nevyn

The reason the answer is still no is because they (and the rest of us) don't want people signing up for a subscription, getting the back PDFs for free, and then canceling the subscription.

As I put in my origional post! I entirely understand the business side, but paizo do tend to do some very customer-nice things at times.

I agree, and the question has basically been answered for me, but the caveat is infuriating, it is almost as though the paizo staff know the software works like that, so don't want to say "no" but also don't want to say "yes" and open up the can of worms you describe....
