Cthulu in the Pathfinder Setting

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Sovereign Court

Hi there,

I really liked the rare Cthulu inspired monster now and then. There was a side bar in one of the first AP issues explaining that this borrowing in the Cthulu setting was supposed to happen rarely.

Then more and more Cthulu like monsters appeared (if you include the modules, too).

I am wondering: Will there be more information in the upcoming campaign setting about why and how Cthulu like monsters came into existence in the setting and how they fit into it?

As I understand, Pathfinder is a setting deeply owing to classic D&D, i.e. devils, daemons, and demons usually make up the big evil (non humanoid) guys. Will all future chaotic critters borrow from Cthulu mythos? (if yes: what will be demons' role in the setting?)

Or is it just that there are so many Cthulu fans among Paizo's authours? (if yes, I'd still like to understand the "ecologic niche" of these critters)

Cheers,
Günther

How many are there in those modules? In Pathfinder, we have two if I haven't missed anything: The hounds and the lemmies.

I guess they go where they please. They laugh at reality, so mere planar boundries are nothing to them.

Demons are demons. James has recently commented on the fiends' roles: Devils are about corruption, Demons about destruction, and Dämons just want to consume life.

And I'd like to see a dragon as the big evil guy. Wasn't there something like that in Crimson Throne?

I think there are more than a few whose sanity is below room temperatur (in °Celsius) ;-)

And as outsiders, they don't need a niche. As the chthonian entities they are, they double don't need one. Our whole "reality" is just a joke to them (I said that already, but it bears thinking about)
