Man! I wish my CD collection hadn't been stolen a few years back. I'm drawing a total blank on this, but if I had my trusty theme musics in front of me, I'd be able to help out.
Off the top of my head, all I can come up with is this:
The soundtrack to the Mel Gibson Hamlet (believe it or not!)
UGH! I used to have TONS more horror tracks...can't remember...man, I'm getting old. I'll call some of my old school gamer buddies and they'll remember! I'll be back!

I'd recommend an album by the band Murcof called "Remembranza". Very nice and creepy ambience. I also tend to use computer game ambience from games such as Fallout, Age of Empires (for that environment ambience), Silent Hill & Resident Evil games (avoid the rock and techno tracks though). Games like Soul Calibur and the Tekken series also have some nice music that can be used.
I also use instrumental tracks from a whole host of metal bands, though those take some tracking down (you don't want the double bass drum kicking in halfway through =D) On that note, a band that has plenty of instrumental tracks is Burzum.
Oh yes, and Drone Metal is perfect for ambience, atleast the kind of Drone where you don't get electric guitars wailing halfway through. The tracks also tend to be 30-40 minutes long. Some bands to get you started: Earth, Sunn O)))), Boris, Khanate, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine.
Hope that helps!

One of my favorites for horror background would be the remake of The Fog, music by Graeme Revell (also one of my favorite soundtrack composers). The soundtrack to Constantine is also good, but is not quite so background-y as The Fog. King Kong has some good threatening-sounding stuff, IIRC.
A while back I threw together a quick "Music to Game By" db at my site, you can check it out for more suggestions (and add your own) here:
