Publishers Forum?

Website Feedback

I brought this up when I first started selling here at Paizo, and I was wondering if any more thought has been given to creating a Publishers Forum. It would be nice to have a place to post product announcements and other publisher-specific items. I always feel a little guilty when I start a discussion thread on one of my own products. Unfortunately, at this point, it's really the best way to announce a new product.

Right now, our messageboard overview page is already way too long. We're working on something to solve that problem, but we don't really want to add anything we don't have to just yet.

I also wonder if other publishers would actually use it if it were there. How much interest do you think there might be?

In the meantime, don't feel bad about starting those threads—we have no problem with them!

Understood. I'm not expecting overnight changes or anything.

Well, judging by the other sites with a strong publisher presence, I would say such a forum would be quite popular. I think a quick look at EN World, YGN, RPGnet, and others certainly indicate that. At this point in time, new releases from publishers other than Paizo get only a very small announcement in the bottom right corner of the page, after you drill down into the appropriate section (downloads, games, etc.). Of course, I'm not implying that your own products shouldn't get top billing, but I think it would be beneficial to all if new releases from other publishers were given a bit more spotlight. One way to do that is a publishers forum.

Cool. I just can't help feeling a bit dirty every time I do it. Like I'm breaking the rules or something. =]

Thanks for listening.

I'd use it. Part of the reason I don't post product announcements in the OGL/d20 forum is because I didn't think that was the appropriate place... and since I didn't see any "appropriate" place, I just don't place announcements here, period.

Filling out your profile and providing links within is always a good subtle way to get the word out as well.

One of the ideas I have had for the website is to start a news board that is just a bunch of news releases, so that paizo.com customers can keep up with all the cool stuff happening around the industry. The only reason we haven't done it so far is manpower, but once I hire my Web Store Coordinator, that might become feasible. Would a gaming newsfeed be interesting to anybody?

That is a good idea. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: Done!

Would it be something akin to what EN World does on their front page? I would definitely be in favor of something like that.

It wouldn't be on the front page because that is more of a portal page. However, there would be a link to the news page, which would look a lot like what you get on gamingreport.com or even ENWorld. It would be a series of threads started with a news item. If I had somebody to vet the news items, I would start it soon, but I don't have that manpower at this point yet. But I will keep this in mind as we move forward.
