Where do you find a dead lich?

3.5/d20/OGL

The SRD (and MM) is unclear as to exactly where a lich reappears 1d10 days after if it is "destroyed" if it's phylactery is still intact. Does it reappear in the same place it was destroyed? Or does it reappear next to it's phylactery?

Aeltoqq needs to know! :)

Thanks,
Greg

Honestly, I think it's up to you. For example:

Spoiler:

In Order of the Stick, after Zylon (sic?) is destroyed, he emerges from the pylactery held around his minions neck.

Also, in Age of Worms, there's some talk of lichs (since there are two of them) and where they come back to life. I don't have access to the magazines at the moment (moving, they are packed), but I'm pretty sure they also teleport... though the Dracolich doesn't for some reason. I'll post again once I move.

I would tend to agree. This is something that the DM needs to decide for their own story/lich. Personally, I would probably say that they reappear at the phylactery unless I had a reason to say otherwise.
