While I am opposed to people who sell alcohol...its that whole ethics issue over people profiting from the destruction of others thing...I like to make brandy.
Brandy is produced by taking white wine grapes, leaving them in a bunch and dusting them in sugar, and sealing them in antibacterial tupperware till they ferment to brandy brown and then press them for brandy.

We have a friend who makes the smoothest brandy on the planet. He and his family have been doing it in small batches whenever the fancy strikes them, and we recieve a small bottle as a Christmas gift a few years ago. It, being the first actual brandy my wife and I ever had, spoiled us as the next time we bought brandy from the liquor store (PA has strict alcohol laws) we had to use it only in cooking. We just couldn't stand the taste.

Home brewing is cool.
I've got friends who make honey mead (never as good as it sounds, sadly, I have a major sweet tooth) and wine, but I don't drink much myself. Majorly alcoholic family, and only my own pickiness has saved me from joining the 'case of beer a day' set. (I hate beer, champagne and most wines, save for the sweet ports. And rum. Mmmm.)
The non-alcoholic half of my family is French, wine at every meal, starting at like age *three,* and, naturally, none of them are alcoholics. I swear this country has everything backwards. It's like our laws *create* drunks and druggies and encourage teenaged pregnancy by forbidding kids to learn anything about the world that they will get dumped into after high school with no darn preparation at all.
Grr. Go ahead and sell the booze, and everything else for that matter, rather than continue this lame 'War on Drugs' that is as much of a windfall for organized crime as the equally ill-conceived Prohibition. Regulate it's use to certain areas and certain conditions, also for quality and, oh yeah, tax the hell out of it.
It's gonna happen and the only thing we're doing now is making sure that the money goes to crooks. Might as well make it as safe as possible, and use the revenue to fix up some collapsing bridges or repair the levies around New Orleans or something useful.

Wow! And here I was gonna suggest you just ferment a few grapes to brandy and stick them in the next damper (bread) you bake. But hey if you think you can save the world - where intellectuals hang out at giggle and squeak parties sniffing helium and nitrous oxide. I get shot at for suggesting banning the sale of Alcohol but allowing homebrewing. I suppose if we did the same for Tobacco (grow your own you lazy bumms!), chewin coca leaf, or any thing else and shot people without trial for selling...you would get results.
