The books are as follows:
The alchemist's journal--again, he was attempting to make a shrinking potion to shrink down and see what things were like on a subatomic level. He thought he could get to other universes that way.
Four more books--various alchemical tomes--essentially the kinds of things you study to brew potions. Profession alchemy +2 to rolls when studied for a few hours.
The alchemist's spellbook--
1 enlarge person,reduce person, rouse
2 fox's cunning, levitate
3 shrink item
4 animate dead
There was more, but those pages are damaged...
Sanbalet's spellbook
1 colorspray, mage armor, T's floating disc, hypnotism, silent image, ventriloquism
2 mirror image, hypnotic pattern, prot from arrows, blur, invisibility, magic mouth, minor image

I assume you roll out in the morning when the sun is up(?)
The group makes it back to Saltmarsh, and is met at the gates by the guardsmen.
They seem to be joking and having good fun.
"Och, there lads," one says to the other three, "here's a hard-harried lot!"
The other three look alive when the group trundles up, but the talker still looks his ease.
"So, hell boys!" he addresses the hard trio. "YOu look fresh back from a battle. What's amiss of that then?"
He smiles:
"Alive, boys, alive.....maybe this'll be an interesting day after all.
Is it highwaymen at you then? I'm itchy as hell. This gateguarding is making my joints ache. The very cords in my arms do Aye-tro-phy."
A grin, predatory, possesses the talker's face.
Gittik
"Me no know what you talk about, but me no like you face. Open gate, and maybe me no cut you." However, Gittik is somewhat tired, and his words lack his customary menace.
Intimidate = 5 + 6 = 11. As he is small, and the guards I presume are medium, he takes an additional -4 on the roll.

I don't have Unearthed Arcana, so how does the Paragon class work? Does Riese gain caster levels while taking it?
Also, Riese and Altai need to split the spellbooks and scribe some spells. Any preferences there? Altai has plenty of spells, so Riese gets dibs if he wants.
Altai Iscarni
In that case, I scribe Burning hands, Obscuring mist, Invisibility, Melf's acid arrow and Scorching ray. That burns most of my gold... I also memorise some new spells.
Also, it only seems right that I should put a skill rank in alchemy - is that Craft(alchemy) or Profession (alchemist)? I thought it was the former.
Harvak
"So what's been amiss, then?"
Harvak moves slowly back alongside the wagon. He grabs the old weatherworn leather tarp and pulls it back revealing a heap of flesh both man, beast and monster(Wizard, gnolls and a merrow's severed head).
"Seems this is what's been going on at the old Alchemist mansion down the lane. The mansion is secure thanks to our efforts, however the child was never found and the paladin of Cuthbert was dead when we found him, rot grubs got 'em!. Demonic evidence was also seized. I believe some reward is in order, get your captain man."

Riese 'helps' by offering his sagely advice during the process. He also scribes a few of his own.
Next Paragon level Riese gets +2 to a stat....Intel baby!| dungeonmaster heathy |
you guys don't have the wagon--Stig was returning to town to retrieve it. I'll assume you told the guard all that though.
The guard is silent for a moment, mulling things over.
He looks around, then:
"Hmm...you guys go about your business like nothing's up. Best you can anyway...I'm going to relay your statement up to the chief. Sure he'll want to catch up to you and take your statement in person. Expect a message with instructions at least, in a couplea hours. Where are ya going to be?"

I would like to get invisibility from the book but I can just copy it from your book when I can. I am a level behind caster-wise so next level I will scribe that in, but if you wanna sell off the book I don't care as long as we can collaborate with our spellbooks.

Take all the spells you want. I'll pick up whatever's left. BTW, I bought my Invisibility on a scroll earlier.
Hey, Heathy, how do you feel about animating the dead? ;D
dungeonmaster heathy
Whaddya mean, like whether or not it's evil or something? Depends on what you do with them.
If you animate them and release them to wreak havoc on the world, that's kinda evil.
If you use them to fight bad guys, you're kinda in the grey area, but your immortal soul isn't imperiled.
Just depends, I guess.
dungeonmaster heathy
That being said, it's like Buddhism. A small divergence from the trail gets bigger as you go. You just gotta make sure you don't end up in a situation where you're debating whether or not sacrificing a unicorn to Obox ob for the benefit of the greater good is an evil act.
I guess animate dead is a "gateway drug." ;)
Altai Iscarni
It probably won't come up in a long, long time. It's more that I've always felt that it's kinda useful to have a couple of skeletons nearby to carry your crap around, set off traps and turn over those questionable corpses. I guess how "evil" it is depends on where the bones get their motive force from - using trapped, enslaved souls is obviously evil, while some otherwise unidentified force is less so.
Elgan Dreadwood
Why do I have a sudden, sinking sensation that we're gonna haveta go and rescue the 'wagon party' from the well-meaning town guard?!?
Elgan spends time with Ocean until she leaves. He has graduated from the initial hormonal reaction to actually conversing with her about life under the sea. And telling her about living among the woods. He finds her fascinating, and is depressed when she finally leaves.
He quickly gets over it by exploring the house from top to bottom. He tries to help Altai until the mage kicks him out of the lab, and then observes the others as he explores.
Not updated yet. RL too busy. Will catch up when able!
Harvak
The guard: Where are ya going to be?"
"The Hoof n Mouth".Harvak's really going to the Lizard boat; He don't trust this guard.
Harvak's gonna pay some kids to watch the Hoof n mouth and how many guards show up and report back to me for more silver coins.
Let me know if you want some rolls for bluff and actually getting them kids to even look at Harvak would be something if not impossible!

I would think that our Pelorian cleric would have a huge issue with it though as Pelor is super opposed to undead. It would be fun to watch you make them and him destroy them though...

Right on. You guys go over to the Lizard Boat?
Kialee greets you. The place isn't that busy; it's coming on noon.
There's one or two salts in there.
The monitor hisses at Gittik.
"Hush now, you little mischiefmaker. Stiggy! Oh, you three look a mess. You've been at a scrap. Hey, there's just three of ye....the others...okay? What's what?"
Beldan Vale
Beldan stays at the house for now.
He keeps talking to the prisoners for a while. He asks them their names, and he asks them what they think the group should do with them, and he asks them if they’ve got anyone who would pay a ransom for them.
He’s half inclined to let the halfling go. She was helpful enough, and he thinks that deserves something. He may just do it, given that the others seem to have forgotten the question of the prisoners. He doesn’t know about the other two though … they seem dangerous, and letting them go – or perhaps even leaving them tied up here for two long – doesn’t seem like a good idea. He’s got little stomach for killing them, but he’s at a bit of a loss.
While he thinks about it, he accompanies Elgan on his search of the house. As well as asking that worthy what he thinks should be done with the prisoners, and helping him search, he’s looking for particulars; any more hidden gold or other treasures would be nice, but what he’s really hoping to find is a deed for the house, or failing that the original owner’s will – perhaps hidden away in a forgotten drawer, or hidden under a loose floor board or something.
If the others are serious about moving in here, it’d be nice to make things legitimate, and owning the deed is close enough … the next best thing is destroying any evidence of who should own the property.
Let me know if you want any search, open locks, spot or disable checks.
dungeonmaster heathy
I'll get back to you on the deed, I think I actually remember reading something about it in the module.
The samurai won't say anything. Not even her name.
She asks if you'll allow her to commit hara kiri, and explains what that is. She's feeling really disgraced to have lost to you all.
The hobbit keeps up her cheery mien, chattering away.
The halfdrow shrugs...his names Jeskar; wrt what do you want us to do with us, he shrugs again, and responds, "I didn't f@+$ with you, so don't f##$ with me. What kinda a*~&!*! question is that? If you're gonna whack me, get it over with. Lolth! Who needs this s!*@?"
Harvak
The wagon crew heads out. Stig passes around his rum filled waterskin and commiserates with them about not being able to burn the place down.
I always thought Stig traveled with a wagon full of booze; People fall off the wagon...Stig fell on one. A wagon full of barreled and bottled drink.
dungeonmaster heathy
Beldan takes 60 ;) and dinks around looking for this and that,...he finds the deed in a desk upstairs.
It's dated 30 years ago;
It reads
"sale of said house bla bla bla....
to Henrik Kleinemacher
from
Elton Swertlowe I....
on condition of completion of said project
bla bla bla bla...."
though the deed is written in Common,...a lot of the mumbo jumbo doesn't make any sense.
know: local d.c. 10
[spoiler]Elton Swertlowe I is your buddy Swertlowe's granpappy.[/ooc]

I thought the whole point was for you guys to go to Saltmarsh to get a wagon so that we could transport all our loot back to the city?
Also, is the paladin's plate mail magical?
dungeonmaster heathy
"All peachy. Jes sneakin' a wee bit."
Stig tells her the story with full embellishments and of course, downs some ale while he's at it.
"Well, well. That's some story. Stiggy the Adventurer, I'll be!
So what now? Are you all going to take on that ship?"She responds.
"You might run all this by the council."
Altai Iscarni
Also, the smugglers probably have a spy or two around - once we put the half-drow and the green lady in jail, they'll know something's up.
Once it becomes clear that the half-drow is a poor conversation partner, Altai moves on to the green-skinned samurai. He tries to ask her where she's from, why she demands the right to kill herself, that sort of thing. Once it becomes clear that she won't talk either, he memorises a couple of Charm person spells - she's far too potentially interesting to get out of talking!
dungeonmaster heathy
Again, she's not talking.
How many charm person spells do you want to try? I guess you can keep asking and asking until she fails the opposed charisma check...
She says her name is Isirka.
She is from a place called Onikawa. Far away by sea; east...west...either way it's far. She is half-human (she sneers when she tells you this as if in disgust and embarrassment) half "uguromaji."
On the revelation of her ancestry she becomes so livid that the spell time is wasted on her bellowing and screaming.
The next question--she wants to kill herself because it's the only decent death left to her. Being executed by disgusting filthy brainless humans would be a worse fate.
Altai Iscarni
Yeah, I don't want to bring up potentially bad subjects to make her unfriendly. Altai would be perfectly happy with her talking about the weather and wildlife in Onikawa, its religious beliefs or any similarly mundane stuff. So many places, so little time... The most interesting thing I guess would be how she enlisted on the pirate ship, who the captain is, how many crew it has and where it usually sails. Beyond that, just chitchat.
I can memorise 3 Charm person spells. I'll use two - if she's all difficult about the ship, I'll use the last one on her as well; if she's cooperative, I'll try it on the surly half-drow instead. Perhaps he has an interesting story or two to tell?
Any idea what an "uguromaji" might be? I'm thinking she's water genasi of sorts, myself... Knowledge (arcana) 13+9=22.
dungeonmaster heathy
Nope... you're not sure what an "uguromaji" is.
She says the uguromaji are the "true people." That humans are inferior, only there to serve the uguromaji.
The pirate captain is named Sigurd "Snake Eyes." He and his mate are northmen. Dangerous fighters; his mate is called "Trollborn" Bjorn.
Their boat is called the Sea Ghost. Good sized ship...
Good fighters "for humans," tho she doesn't think Bjorn is entirely "human." Can't give you exact estimates of crew size; as few as five, and as many as eighty; it changes from time to time...(wow, did I anticipate a p.c. question? Cool. ;)...)
dungeonmaster heathy
She serves an uguromaji mercenary lord in Scuttlecove. He rents soldiers out essentially.
He is called Lord Jaigo, and she seems about to tell you about him, then stops.
The Sea Ghost sails all over, doing this and that. Operates out of Scuttlecove. She doesn't understand the power structure of that place, just does what Lord Jaigo tells her.
She's been with this outfit for 6 months, shore duty. It's boring.
dungeonmaster heathy
The halfdrow was sold to a long line of clients from the Underdark; came through Sasserine; grabbed by the Scarlet Brotherhood; freed in a ship battle by Snake Eyes.
They asked him if he was tired of being property, if he wanted to join the Brethren (the pirate life, yo ho, yo ho, and all that).
He asked them what the alternative was; at the time the victorious brethren were making the Scarlet Brotherhood crew (what was left of them) fight for their entertainment.
So he joined the brethren.
He's not real motivated, but he does okay, and meh...it's a living.
