Just a few predictions that me and my friends have been kicking around, any other suggestions or spins? I know this is way early but still fun to think about
Tank-->barbarian (primal), physic warrior (psionic), samurai (ki), purple dragon knight (dragon)
Striker-->monk (ki), druid (primal), soulknife (psionic), wilder (psionic), dragon disciple (dragon)
Controller-->psion (psionic), ninja (ki), swashbuckler (martial), warden (primal), shugenja (divine), dragonfire adept (dragon)
Leader-->bard (arcane), ardent (psionic), spirit shaman (primal), kensai (ki), dragon shaman (dragon)
The druid is actually a toss up, since they said they want it to be a shapeshifter it doesn’t really fit as a leader, and doesn’t really fit as a controller, but who knows, I am going to call it a striker
The bard is also a toss up too, can be a controller or a leader
One of the guys i have tossed around this with is of the belief that the barbarian is going to end up a striker

I'd speculate we'll see a Shadow source, or maybe Death or Negative. No doubt thats where Necromancers will come in, as well as maybe Illusionists (more likely if its Shadow). You could also fit something like a Shadowmage from ToM or a Shadowdancer in there.
Psi has more or less been confirmed as an eventual powersource and I think you're spot on regarding a Primal (or Natural, or Feral) source, where Barbarians, Druids, and maybe Spirit Shamans will be lumped in.
Assuming Ki isn't folded up with Psi, thats where Samurai, Ninjas, and Monks will feature, and possibly the oriental casters as well.
I think swashbucklery is going to be split between Fighters and Rogues though, so I'm unsure if we'll see a Swashbuckler class anytime soon ... why would you pick them as a controller? Also, what would the Warden class be?
I'm not sure about a Dragon source, although since they say anything with "dragon" in it sells well, I suppose that remains a strong possibility. Over at ENWorld I've seen a fair bit of speculation regarding a Science or Alchemy source, focusing on Artificers or maybe a controller who uses tanglefoot bags and alchemist fire (and other assorted projectiles).

I picked the swashbuckler as the controller, because I thought maybe they could give him some abilities to dance/move around the battlefield and confound enemies into staying back while doing some damage to assorted people around the battle field. This kind of fits in with the controller role they have talked about it, controlling the battlefield by restricting movement and large area of effect abilities. Just a fun thought and a bit of a stretch, but never the less a very fun concept.
I was thinking of the Warden too, and I thought they might make a good primary protector/tank role or even a primal leader.
The science and alchemy source sounds like fun. :)

striker-->shadowdancer (shadow)
controller-->illusionist (shadow)
leader-->necromancer (shadow)
Those might be good shadow power characters, I couldn't think of anything that would be a good tank, maybe a shadow knight/death knight. Beguiler is also a good option, but would it be a controller or leader?

As of "Worlds and Monsters" Shadow is a confirmed Power Source, and was mentioned as being the power of Necromancers, Illusionists and somebody else though I can't recall who... undead or some such, I believe.
It was in the Shadowfell section at any rate.
I definitely see the Illusionist as the Controller, but I think too many of their powers would be wrapped up in the Psion. What could be really interesting is the Illusionist as an Arcane Defender, not putting them self into danger but instead conjuring up phantasmal soldiers who hold monsters attention.

I really like that view of the Illusionist, but the same concept would ultimately fill the controller role as well. Controller is just the broad role, but doesn't mean they have to take direct control of the enemies. Just control their actions a little bit by changing the face of the battlefield.

I think it would fall somewhere between Defender and Controller, combining elements of the two roles into one. I think that a Controller is more wide ranging control: moving enemies around, altering how the battlefield is shaped, confusing/paralyzing/hindering multiple enemies at once so that the Strikers can wail on one more powerful enemy, etc.
I think of the Defender as being the type to pick one or two enemies and really stymie them: keeping them stuck in melee, preventing them from moving, hindering their attack or armour class, etc.
The roles are really loosely defined though, so we shall have to see what they look like in practices once the actual books are released.
