Im a DM currently playing Age of Worms. The PCs have defeated Ilthane the black dragon (Adult large dragon) The cleric of Kelemvor wants to use her scales for an armor. Ilthane is not large enough for the armor to be made entirely from her scales. That doesn’t matter to the player, because he wants it to be combined Scales and Adamantine (which they can buy from the smithy in town (Mirarbar)) - he thinks this will be cool. I do to because they have an awful lot of money, that I can rid them off!
So I’ve decided to let him have it, but I have no experience what so ever in prices/materials/etc…
So maybe anyone have had experience with this, or just think it would be fun to help me out :-)
Can you help me? And do you have other coments?
- I’ll use the Dragoncraft from Draconomicon.
- This is what I’ve got:
Ordinary Cost AC Dex AcPen Arcane Speed Weight Special
Full plate 1.5000 +8 1 -6 35% 20 ft. 50 lb.(H) -
Dragoncraft Cost AC Dex AcPen Arcane Speed Weight Special
Full plate 1.5000 +8 1 -4 35% 20 ft. 50 lb.(M) Acid R 5
+11.000
Adamantine Cost AC Dex AcPen Arcane Speed Weight Special
Full plate 1.5000 +8 1 -5 35% 20 ft. 50 lb.(H) DR 3/-
+15.000
Questions:
- What will the stats of this armor be?
- How long will it take to make (to dwarves work together)?
- What is it gonna cost? (They have the scales, but not the adamantine) Will the dwarves have salary?
Full Pate Cost AC Dex AcPen Arcane Speed Weight Special
Dragoncraft/ ? 8 1 ? 35% ? ? ?
Adamantine
Thougts:
- The DR 3/- from adamantine is to much I think, because it will not be made entirely of adamantine. - Does the dragon craft ability to make the heavy armor become medium have any impact on weight?
- If he later wants to make it magical, how do I calculate this, when he has the mwk armor?
Thanks

I'd probably just simplify the stuff to be adamantine full plate with dragon scale accents, and take half the benefits of each material. Maybe decrease the DR from the adamantine by 1 to a total of DR 2/adamantine, and reduce the acid resistance down to 2. I'd also keep the stuff as heavy armor, and put the ACP at -5. I believe weight would stay the same.
Pretty cool idea though, good luck!

Ilthane, as a large dragon, produces enough dragonhide to create a suit of masterwork hide armor for a medium creature or a suit of masterwork banded mail for a small creature, according to page 284 of the DMG. In both cases a masterwork dragonhide shield can also be created.
First, ask how he wants the adamantine and scales combined. Does he want overlapping strips of adamantine attached to a dragonhide backing (banded mail, 250gp), adamantine plates over dragonhide (half plate, 600gp), or interlocked adamantine plates over flexible dragonhide (full plate, 1500gp)? In all three cases, apply full costs and benefits for both adamantine (+15,000gp and DR 3/-, armor is masterwork at no extra cost) and dragoncraft (+11,000gp and Acid Resistance 5); neither affects the armor category or weight. The dwarves should be able to either supply the adamantine or point the party in the right direction to obtain some (can we say side-quest?).
The market price is assumed to include a salary for the work; if you're kind, you can give the player a price break equal to the raw material cost if they provide the adamantine (5000gp) and/or the dragonhide (3667gp). Assuming a skilled dwarven armorer with a +8 craft Taking 10, masterwork artisan's tools, and three assistants (each using the Aid Another to add to the checks), it will take approximately five or six years of constant work going by the rules under the Craft skill in the PHB. A master dwarven armorer with a +12 craft will take about four or five years. Increasing the weekly progress to skill check x DC in gp instead of sp (a common house rule), it will still take six or seven months for the skilled armorer and five or six months for the master armorer.
Magical enchantment costs are added separately. Bonus x bonus x 1000gp for each "plus" and any additional amounts for properties with set prices. Note that magical Acid Resistance will usually overlap (NOT stack) with the dragoncraft Acid Resistance.

I love the crafting rules...

Seeing as he's not crafting himself i'd go for
Dragonhide Plate (DMG p.220) = 3,300 gp
Item cost modifier for Adamantine Heavy Armour (DMG p.283) = +15,000 gp
Acid Resistance 10 (DMG p.217) = +18,000
Base Price for magic (DMG p. 216-217) +2 & ghost touch = +5armour = 25,000 gp
So for +2 Ghost Touch Adamantine Black Dragonhide Plate (acid resistance 10) you're going to pay 61,300gp. You might be generous and take away the cost of the raw materials for the dragonhide bit (1,100gp).
So according to the DMG that will cost 60,200gp.
(3,300+15,000+18,000+25,000-1,100)
Which might look pricey but it will be one item that gives;
Armour Bonus +10
Max Dex. Bonus +1
Armour Check Penalty -5
Arcane Spell Failure 35%
Speed 20ft
Weight 50lb
Can be worn by a druid
Damage Resistance 3/-
Acid Resistance 10
Works against incorporeal attacks, and whilst incorporeal.
