I read a fair number of Dark Horse comics. Have you guys ever thought of putting out a RotRL or Pathfinder inspired comic, possibly teaming up with DH?

The DH artists are pretty good, and they really put out some quality stuff. You could even do a rendition of a Gamemastery Module (like, Entombed with the Pharoahs) using the iconics as the protagonists.

Or...even a comic for Eando's adventures, or a comic tracing Valeros' early adventures or upbringing. You guys have created such a rich world, the possibilities are endless.

You could start with a small limited print run, like 3 or 5 issues, to see how well it sells.

I for one would definitely pick this up. Aside from me, would anyone else be interested in such a thing?

The Ptolus was great.. for the first two issues.. and then it went to poo. D&D settings do not seem to translate well to comics.

Though a miniseries.. maybe 6 issues with a GOOD artist and colorer with the original four Iconics would be something all of us would love. :)

It's all about the writer. The episodic format should work well if the narrative is structured like a good adventure.

Not really, the Ptolus comic went to poo because of the publisher, artist, and colorer all jumped ship when D&D fans didn't flock to the comic book store to buy it. :)

It's not at all uncommon for brands or products to have comics associated with them. Off the top of my head, Hellgate: London, Firefly, Star Wars (of course), Indiana Jones, and Buffy have all had comic or graphic novel iterations. Having said that, all these products are Very Large Franchises (with the possible exception of Firefly and Hellgate, and it should be noted that Hellgate's comic was exceptionally pathetic).

Broadly speaking, I don't think licensed comics ever turn out well, unless the people working on the project were enthusiasts of the license beforehand (and may have suggested the project in the first place). Anytime you go to somebody and say "Take my product which you could care less about and make a great comic about it", you're setting yourself up for a pretty bad comic.

Having said that... if you could find existing Pathfinder enthusiasts who also happened to be persons experienced in the comics industry, then it might not be the worst idea ever.

Very true, most of the star wars comics are poo now that none of the novel authors write for the comics anymore. When the novel authors were doing comics, you were assured the comics would impact the novels (cause said author would make sure the comic fit into the continuity.) As a result, Dark horse was spending more money on the production of the comics, better artists and colorers.

Licensed comics are cash cows for publishers since the fans of said popular franchise are going to buy them, good or bad.

The best comic book (or graphic novel, if you prefer that term) products are those that have a perfect storm of writer and artist. Would Preacher have been as good if Dillon didn't capture the writing of Ennis so well? Or Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson for Transmetropolitan? A great story is paramount (which "Eando Kline" has provided for us), but finding the artist that can capture the pacing and feel of the writing is when the magic happens.

I hope you can find that artist! 'Cause I want a Pathfinder graphic novel. A lot and stuff. :P

A Pathfinder comic would be amazing.

It would also, as far as I know, cost more than our entire RPG staff's net worth, including organs sold on eBay.

Maybe someday....

A PF graphic novel would be awesome.

That's why I like the idea of a Paizo/Dark Horse team-up.

I like their Star Wars art a lot. Dynamite comics might be a good partner too, as Red Sonja has had some pretty good art lately IIRC.

That's why you all should gang up on James and make him write short stories and novels. :)
