Primeval: Frostburn Power House

3.5/d20/OGL

I’ve had Frostburn since it came out, and I just noticed the Primeval PrC. I don’t know why I always just kind of wrote it of as something that turns into a Neanderthal, but 1. I was wrong. 2. This class is unbelievable.

You can “wildshape” into one large dire animal, prehistoric animal, dinosaur, or creature approved by your DM, getting it’s Str score -10 or -11(if odd Str) added to yours. Ex. Dire Bear Str 31 so a Barbarian with a 18 Str would have a 38 Str.

He also gets a +3 to Str, Dex, Con, Wis, but a –3 to Int and Cha in his normal form. (Barbarian 41 Str.)

He also gets another +6 to Str in his “wildshape” form. (Barbarian 47 Str.)

You can stack rage on top of all that. (Barbarian 51 Str. or 52 Str.)

None of the above is counting other abilities, natural armor, and class abilities that you get. This class puts the Bear Warrior to shame(which is a shame). Your get a dire bear (sort of) at level one of this PrC. I guess the 3 entry feats kind of suck but still. I’ve done all this just thinking that I’d pick a bear and be a barbarian 10/ Primeval 10, no power gaming involved. I’m sure someone else could make this class even stronger.

I’m not much of a power gamer, but this screamed at me as I was reading it. Has anyone used it? I’ve played a Bear Warrior, which I loved, but I know this guy would have stomped me into the ground, prison bear raped me, and made me call him Sir. Just thought I should share my shock and horror which I half way like and half way want to take my good’ol Bear Warrior and run like hell.

Usually the dire form is limited to 8HD (so no Dire Bear). Still powerful though as you can be a Dire Wolf or Dire Lion :)

... and you're VERY easy to hit as you lose your armour and shield (as per wildshape :) You may have items that can be worn by the new form though (get them bracers).
