Time Travel?

I'm a frozen dinner, eating at Applebee's and McDonald's kinda gamer.

I'm not proud.

I just never played many other systems longer than a couple of months at most. Is there a time travel RPG or a system that uses the subject/genre well or often?

I've never seen one. That's a pretty tall order to fill. Chronomancer (2e D&D) did something like that.

This is the one. This is the best.

Go to Continuum..

There've been several. There's one based on the Doctor Who license due out either late this year or some time next year.

There were about six out in the 80s (Fringeworthy from Tri-Tac, though that was also about dimension hopping, Time Master from PaceSetter, I've heard there were variant rules for Aftermath that included some), and HERO system is capable of just about anything if you push it a bit.

I agree. This one is very fun. We were at Worldcon in Philly, and played a demo of this with the creator...the demo was to look in the fridge, and go get the stuff there. Milk dated 2 months ago. Meat packaged tomorrow...and so on.

It was a fun time. The ruleset is a bit complicated, but it is a neat system nonetheless.

I ref'd a continuum game where a character's future self came bursting into the bathroom to shoot him. He got shot in the head and suddenly, the yet self dissappears. The character is messed up by the head wound, and develops aphasia. He is no longer able to recognise household objects or faces. The game ended with the character going to get revenge on the narcissist who set him up. He thinks he is in a bunker, shooting the enemy, and is actually shooting himself in the bathtub.

I have run time traveling campaigns in both G.U.R.P.S. and Hero. I would suggest G.U.R.P.S. if you want to make it gritty and Hero if you want to make it more cinematic.

I have also run dimensional hoping campaigns in Hero where I allowed the players to come up with any sort of character including super heroes. This can be fun to let the player bring back their favorite character from any game.

I.....don't think I'd play in YOUR game. Damn. That's a mindf**k!

I played in a homebrew RPG with a friend once, where we were sort of like the Time Patrol. We were sent back to correct the timestream that time terrorists were disrupting. One was to rescue Sam Clemens (Mark Twain) from the Confederate Army camp that he had been convinced to join. The other was to go back to Russia to prevent the opposition from stopping the Russian Revolution. The GM introduced a double agent that we reported to that was constantly backstabbing us. The entire party spiraled down into paranoia, and an incident where two of us (my wife and I actually) were pointing guns at each other and yelling to the other to STAND DOWN!

Intense. But....a mindf**k game. We could never play again after that because we thought the GM was ALWAYS doing that to us.

If you can find it, Pacesetter had a pretty good one called Timemaster. It's out of print, but utilized the same game engine as their Chill and Star Ace games. Easy to learn, fun to play!
