Are there plans for a Hellknight prestige class? They intrigue me and I might have to play an aspiring Hellknight at some point.
No plans yet. Eventually we'll do something for the Hellknights, be it a prestige class or a new base class or a list of variant paladin or fighter or ranger class abilities or something, though.

James, your response makes me very happy. I know everything is in limbo until you see the 4e rules, but I'm heartened that Paizo seems to be thinking outside the box a bit on this. Monte Cook complained soon after he started Malhavoc that not enough 3rd party publishers were pushing the envelope with what could be done with OGL rules: hence his Arcana Unearthed/Evolved/Iron Heroes lines.
Not simply automatically figuring Hellknights as a prestige class but examining other mechanics (along with other new mechanics, like the excellent "haunt" rules, etc.) goes a long way to potentially pushing the rules in new and exciting directions.
So thanks for taking the time to think it through to find the best rules rather than just jumping on the obvious.

In the meanwhile can we have a little direction or hints at what a hellknight may have? Alignment detection seems to be part of it. Does anyone else have any suggestions or thoughts?
I'd like to showcase one the PCs meet, and would like something small to make them a step beyond the norm. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

LN fallen paladins, not necessarily evil ones, but ones who have given up their oaths for more emphasis on their lawful side, and less to their good side.
I'd probably allow them to use their paladin abilities but in slightly different ways. Like detect chaos instead of evil, and smite chaos rather than smite good. Also, change any of their spells out that specifically target evil creatures to ones that target chaotic creatures.
As for their paladin code, it should probably be changed to resemble something similar to St. Cuthbert's dogmas. In retrospect of this, you could potentially have a hellknight PC adventuring alongside an evil PC, with full knowledge of his evil-ness, as long as he didn't break any laws :)
No ideas yet on specific hellknight mounts.

If I need one in the short term I just plan to use a paladin of tyranny from Unearthed Arcana.
For those with the Book of Nine Swords, LN and LE crusaders would also fit the bill nicely.

These are great ideas, thank you. Here's something I came up with while fiddling around.

Space 5 ft.; Reach 5 ft.
Base Atk +5; Grp +7
Special Atk smite chaos 5/day and turn undead 6/day
Abilities Str 15, Dex 9, Con 11, Int 13, Wis 15, Cha 16
SQ detect chaos, aura of stubbornness, unnatural health, orders from no one, resistance

Possessions +1 half-plate, +1 buckler, mwk battleaxe, potion of displacement, 10 gp, 7 sp, 8 cp.
Smite Chaos: Cyndar may attempt to smite chaos with a normal melee attack. He adds +3 to his attack roll and deals 5 extra points of damage. If Cyndar accidentally smites a creature that is not chaotic, the smite has no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day. He can do this a number of times per day equal to 2 plus his Cha modifier.
Turn Undead (Su): Cyndar can turn or destroy undead 6 times per day as a 2 level cleric.
Detect Chaos (Sp): Cyndar can detect chaos at will, as the spell of the same name.
Orders From No One (Ex): Cyndar is immune to all enchantment (charm) and compulsion spells and effects.
Aura of Stubbornness (Su): Cyndar is immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Allies within 10 feet of him gain a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects.
Unnatural Health (Su): Cyndar is immune to all diseases, including magical diseases such as mummy rot and lycanthropy.
Resistance (Su): Cyndar gains a +3 bonus on saving throws.

Fun and effective... Order of the Godclaw. As soon as you can, taking from the Travel domain means that you move 40' in your Hellknight full plate - that is SCARY.
"Pentamic Faith (Ex; Order of the God Claw only): This ability allows the Hellknight to select one of the following domains: Artifice, Glory, Knowledge, Law, Magic, Nobility, Protection, Rune, Strength, Travel, and War. The Hellknight gains all of the granted powers (but not domain spells) of that domain, treating his Hellknight levels as Cleric levels to determine what domain abilities he has access to."
