Need YMHO (Your Most Humble Opinion)

3.5/d20/OGL

One of my DM recently asked me what would my next character be. Since I never played a wizard, I lean (or leaned) toward the role of arcane spellcaster. But while I was going thru my books I had some small "tingly" fellings when I came across the Hex Blade (from Complete Warior) and the Knight (PHB2).

I was wondering if any of you had experience playing or DMing one of theese classes. Since I have no idea what our next campaign will be and what will be the role of my fellow adventurers, I can't give anymore infos than "Hey those classes look cool, I wonder if anyone at Paizo could share their experience on that".

So there it is, any opinions or experience you can share?

Cheers !

Liberty's Edge

The Hexblade is a neat concept, but one of my players used one in my current campaign and we found that the Curse power to be underwhelming.

The save DC is low and the effect is minimal. The spell list is small and the combat skills are only so-so.

If I were you, I'd use the concept and execute it by multi-classing as a fighter/sorcerer (or Warlock from Complete Arcane). I think you'll be happier with the result.

I've not played a knight, but its class features seem odd (more flavor-texty than game-mechanic functional). If I were playing a knight conceptually, I would go with fighter and then take either the Cavalier or Purple Dragon knight PrC later on.

I think that I am great and you should all bow down to me. Wait--'Your Most Humble Opinion'? Nevermind, then...

The Hexblade was a good concept but done badly : the curse is good but you have too few per day, you are limited to light armor and no shield ...

I play a rogue/hexblade with Improved Feint and it is a lot of fun, also I must say I never managed to curse anyone ...

You can find on the WotC Boards some attempts to fix the class, like this one.

The knight is a tough melee class. But the 4th-level power is really too strong and overpowered ("youhou Monsters, you must attack me and only me !!").
