My PCs will visit Alhaster in late 576/early 577 CY in one of our next sessions (probably early next year real time).
I need Alhaster before Zeech seceded from the Shield Lands. I have read Peruhains excellent inofficial history of Alhaster, and will have a look at the Backdrop from Dungeon 131 (and will scan and rework the map as needed). I want to post every location from the backdrop that has changed after Zeech, and try to collect ideas as to what the locations have been beforehand. The Cathedral of Hextor is quite obvious, but others are not as obvious.
If there are any ideas as to what these locations may have been, feel free to post.

Obviously the faith of Heironeous should be the major faith of the city. Perhaps the PC's could meet one of the Heironeon clerics that will one day become the leader of the rebel Order of the Sundered Axe (from Living Greyhawk). Possible villains in 576 Alhaster could include members of the Horned Society, who invaded the Shield Lands in 579 CY. Also don't forget that 576 CY was the year that the Red Death struck the Flanaess.

Yes, the Hextor Cathedral will be a Heironean one in 576. But I like the idea of a Wee Jas temple there.

Is there any accessible source on this? I don´t have access to LG "insider" material.

They may try to gain some influence and work covert here - and might be used as evil scapegoats once discovered. Nice idea.

Yeah, I´ve read that already - have to detail it.
Thanks for the ideas.

Stefan--about a year and a half ago I had a fit of inspiration and typed up an extensive set of background notes on Alhaster, in which I tried to reconcile the background material in AoW with what I could find in Greyhawk canon sources (LGG/Adventure Begins/Iuz the Evil) and online in the Living Greyhawk "Bandit Kingdoms" website (which had disappeared last time I checked). I also added a ton of my own ideas in to tie the disparate threads together.
It's about an 8 page MS Word file, and I believe I posted some of it (a timeline of Alhaster's recent history detailing the circumstances of Zeech's accession) somewhere, and you might be able to dredge it out of the archives, but I'm happy to send you the whole file, which should give you some ideas to make use of or modify as you see fit. Just e-mail me: abatai at yahoo.com, and I'll attach the file to my response and send it your way. Make sure you put something recognizable in the subject line so that I don't think it's spam.

Yeah, I have that gem linked if you open the spoiler tag in my first post:-) It is very much the base I take for developing it all, and I had saved a copy of the posts and even printed them for my campaign binder.
Thanks for the offer, though. And thanks for your work in the first place.Stefan

The only information I have on the Brotherhood of the Sundered Axe is the one-page writeup in the Bandit Kingdoms Meta-Org 596 CY Guidebook. It's pretty much a secret organisation made up of ex-nobles and knights who worshipped Heironeous before Zeech took power. They are organised into resistance cells, and even their leader's identity is secret,
As for the Red Death, it originated in Rookroost (also in the Bandit Kingdoms) and was introduced in the Fate of Istus adventure. Personally, I prefer Kyuss being responsible than Istus. Made the Red Death into one of the Age of Worms prophecies.

Thanks for the idea of the Sundered Axe, and especially for the Red Death source. Now I will look into that module and see what´s written there.
