The Pyre

Rise of the Runelords

Has any information at all about the Pyre been published yet? I can't find any.

One of my PCs is on his way there. I can make stuff up, but I'd love to stick with whatever the original concept was.

If I remember correctly, the Pyre was a place where long ago (before Sandpoint was founded) a dangerous hag was defeated by several Varisian adventurers. She regenerated, so the adventurers burned her on a big pyre here, and ever since Varisians come out to burn a pyre in remembrance for all the folk the evil hag slew. With the increase of local traffic and the settling of Sandpoint, there's been talk about building a lighthouse here to signal ships to the nearby port of Sandpoint, but so far the local Varisians have put a stop to that.

At least, that's my memories of what we were foolin' around with making it. It doesn't feature in any big way in any upcoming Pathfinders, so you're free to go with whatever you want for it.

Thanks!

Hm, so there was a hag there (an annis, perhaps), and then we have Old Megus in the Brinestump Marsh (possibly a green hag). If they come in threes, there's still a sea hag nearby. Maybe that's related somehow to the truth behind the stories of Old Murdermaw.

Food for thought. Thanks again!

A nice bit of connective reasoning there. I very well might just have to adapt exactly what is being mentioned here.

And now we have the witchfire, from the volume 5 bestiary. I'm not sure how this ties in yet, but I'll keep pondering.

If nothing else, my players hunted down Old Megus, killed her, and burned her body. I'm thinking that a little ways down the road her witchfire self will be coming back to haunt them. :)
