SlugFest Games

Hello, Cliff at SlugFest Games here.
I was wondering what folks had to say about The Red Dragon Inn.
Anyone have any war stories, comments, or questions?

For those who don't know, Paizo has been acting as a sales agent for SlugFest Games for quite some time now. (Basically, SlugFest makes the games, and we sell them into distribution.)

What's really odd is that The Red Dragon Inn has sold very, very well into distribution, but we haven't sold nearly as many copies as I'd expect on paizo.com, especially given that the paizo.com audience is pretty much the perfect audience for the game. I hope this thread will help that situation!

I would be interested also if anyone played this and what they think. My family usually gets a new board game every Christmas so I might get this one if some people have some good things to say.

Dreamweaver, I just ordered it. Hopefully it will get some play on New Years, and I will have some feedback for you.

Cheers

I too am receiving it from my wife for Christmas, albiet a little late, and I will let you know how it goes.

We don't have a staff review section (yet? hey Vic!), but if we did I'd give this game a high rating (probably all the stars I could throw at it). I had the opportunity to demo this game extensively at PAX07. It's brilliant fun. :)

This game is great!! My wife fell out of fantasy gaming when she went to college but she is enamored with Red Dragon Inn and is constantly asking me to play it with her. Here's to hoping that this will subtley trick her into participating in my Arko campaign again!

After a little convincing to give it a try the game it’s becoming a favorite with most of my friends and me. We’re looking forward to the expansion and the additional characters.

I can't recommend this game nearly enough. I played it the first time at a friend's house last year during Origins, (and I admit, the drink had been rather free-flowing) and it was a total blast. With the right crowd, it lends itself well to free-form role-playing as players adopt the personas of their characters. I've actually seen better role playing come out of this game than most RPGs I've played. :)
Earlier this year I was walking through my FLGS and there was a copy of it on the shelf. I'm the sort of person who hems and haws over any purchase more than five dollars, but when I saw it, I didn't hesitate a second. Totally worth every penny, and I can't wait for the expansion. Slugfest obtains super awesome status for Red Dragon Inn!!!

Forget staff reviews. You need to send it to outsite web sites... like En World for review purposes.... yeah, that's the ticket...

I like the game. I reviewed it here.

I haven't bought the second set because I don't imagine it changes game-play very much, and, as I say, I like the game well enough that I'm not looking for a supplement to fix it.

(I should note: some supplements, like the ones for Settlers of Catan, really change the feel for the game. It's like buying a new game with some familiar elements; I buy those. Some, like the ones for Dungeon Twister, make a simple game richer. I buy those. Some just make the game longer, like the cooperative Lord of the Rings boardgame from Fantasy Flight. If you didn't care much for the original game, the supplements don't make it any better.)

Actually, it doesn't change it at all. The rules stay the same, with some minor clarifications. It's really less of an expansion, and more like a different version of the game with four new characters. In fact, I'm pretty certain you could by part two and play it without ever laying eyes on part one.

That said, The major reason to get it if you already have the first one, is simply that it expands the number of players you can have from four to eight. Plus I like to throw money at these guys because they rock! :)
