Destruction of the Runewell

Rise of the Runelords

What would be the effective way to deactivate/destroy the runewell. I couldnt find the section that details this information.

Would simply pouring holy water into it work or would you have to drain it then desecrate it all together?

Thanks for you help.

Caution friend!

Spoiler:
The players will be returning to the Catacombs of Wrath in a future Chapter when Lamashtu ressurects the Scribbler (the ghost in the levitation chamber). The lower portions of the catacombs that were blocked off by caved in staircases) will be re-opened.

What I'm saying is, the runewell even though deactivated, might come back into play. You might not want to paint yourself in a corner by allowing them to destroy it.

Though I concede, my players certain want to as well.

Hopefully James will clarify for us.

May have found the answer off of the pathfinder wiki thread:

Spoiler:

Q: Just to clarify things. The only way the PCs can dissipate the runewell's power is if they slit their wrists, which would mean that they would have to create approximately 4 sinspawn?
A: tdewitt274: Or, deal with 7 "enraged" PCs (3 pts a piece).
JJ: Yup. Other methods might work as well. Dispel evil would probably safely disperse some points. And a rod of cancellation would do a number on the runewell. Morden... ahem.... mage's disjunction would absolutely destroy the runewell. BUT: These alternatives are out of reach of a low level party.
Note: Erylium uses 6 points in the encounter.

Kudos to those who created the wiki...

Good points, but there is a difference between deactivating it, and utterly destroying it.

Scarab Sages

I don't know they have to slit their wrist per se. I seem to recall that any small amount of blood will work to create the sinspawn.

I think it is useful to remember that the Runewell is a magical creation, not a divine creation. This despite the fact that it is in a cathedral like setting. Meaning: holy water, consecrate, bless, etc. will have as much effect on it as a snowball would have on a really, really hot place with devils.

I'm not sure that allowing the PCs to power down the runewell of wrath will be a big deal. I don't think the well will be focus when they go back.

Spoiler:
Apparently, the were many runewells of wrath, and they weren't as powerful (McGuffin Factor = low), while I think there is only one runewell of greed, and it is very important to Karzoug (MacGuffin Factor = High!). The PCs are destined to go through great lengths to destroy it, as revealed in my PDF of #4 which I just downloaded.
