Examination of the map suggests that most (nearly all) of the islands were formed by cutting a canal -- they weren't separate islands originally. If so, it's not hard to imagine that people saw no reason to give them names when they were made; everyone already knew where everything was.
If someone did try to tag on names, many likely wouldn't bother using them, anyway.
Just a thought :)

I disagree. I believe that people tend to name things all the time. My kids have even named some of the trees on our property!
I agree that the current "islands" were most likely part of a river-punctuated land mass before, but 700 hundred years is a long time for no one to bother naming each piece. Go find a hunk of coast anywhere and you'll see that the locals have names for every geologically distinct feature and area, even if most do not appear on any map. And in the areas I'm thinking we're talking about far less than 700 years of history.
Eh, to each his own.

That's funny! :)

I see your point, and I don't think you're wrong -- I just like my approach. And it's not so much that I don't think they'll get named, but that tradition might (and IMC does) keep those names from ever being used.
As you said, to each their own.

If we were spending more time in Sasserine I might consider it. Though when my players want go somewhere general (inn, potion shop, exotic pets) I ask them where they are going. My Sasserine now has shops like the SassyInn, Potions and Pungents, and Lou's Bait and Tackle (ask to see Bawb to get into the back room for exotic pets.)
Let your players (the characters are local right?) name those things to invest them in Sasserine more. Personally, I will spend more of this development on Farshore than Sasserine though.

Some of the islands may have been created, some are likely natural, but the key to naming them should be landmarks (like streets) or historical figures/events. If you're going to go to the trouble of naming the islands, then you should make sure the players know why, for example, the south west most island in the merchant district is named rabbit island, and the more western above it is called fish-gut island.
